Maria smiled as she played with her daughter. She was getting better. "Maria, what are you doing out of bed?" Addison said making her look at her.

"I'm fine. Just checking on this little angel."

Addison put her arms around her. "You will be working again tomorrow."

The next day, her daughter still in the hospital, but Mikey and his mother offered to stay with Isabella as Maria worked. They were doing rounds and Maria stopped in her mom's room with her sister as she grabbed her hand. "I don't want Merdith in here, she's just a child." She says. "I don't want her on my team."

"Mom." The girls says.

"Maria, Merdith, wait outside."

Maria did as told causing her to walk away to get some water. She couldn't stand there and let her mother treat her bad. She may have been close to her mother, but her mother isn't in her right mind. Addison saw Maria and walked over to her. "Maria, here is my number." She says.

"Where are you going?"

"I'm leaving." She says. "You're daughter is going to be fine, but I think they will need to put her on a transplant list."

"Okay." She tells her. "As long as I have my daughter."

Maria walked by Cristina's room and saw her getting upset with her mother. When her mother walked out, Maria walked in. "I thought me and Meredith had mother issues."

"The last I heard, your mother favors you."

Maria rolled her eyes. "Don't know why and I will never ask why." She says. "I'm going to check on my daughter now."

Cristina looked at her. 'How is she?"

"Good. Getting on the heart transplant." She says. "I'll give you some time to yourself."

Cristina nodded as Maria walked away, but was stopped when she saw Addison. "Addison, don't leave." She says. "I know what my sister did, but I think you would fit in here. I happen to like you and would like to know you as a friend."

'Thank you, Maria." She says. "Why don't you come with me?"

"Well, I was going to check on Isabella."

"Okay. I'll pitch you in later."

Maria nodded as she walked away. Her mind was on Addison. Will she stay or will her sister end up heart broken. Either way, she was staying out of it.

"Hey, baby girl." She says as Alex walked in. "There's Uncle Alex."

"Hey, princess." He says. "Uncle Alex has other things he has to do, but I will see you later."

Maria shook her head as she left the nursery with her daughter to go find her mother. She saw her sister who stood pissed off. "Where's mom?"

"I don't know and George is her babysitter."

"Oh boy." She says. "Welp, I'm taking Isabella back so I can go to work."

"Actually, Bailey is looking for you." She says causing Maria to sigh as she was not looking forward to whatever Bailey wanted.

Finding Bailey, she saw her with a patient and noticed the look on her face causing her to sigh. She knew what Bailey wanted. Someone to confide in. "Maria, I need you in surgery."

"Okay." She says. "Are you sure you can do this?"

"Yeah."

Maria looked at her sister as they knew Bailey was going to end up heartbroken if this patient doesn't make it.

In surgery, Maria helped with the surgery as she heard the monitor causing them to jump in. Maria watched Bailey and Meredith switch as she stood beside Addison. "Dr. Bailey, please." She says. "It's been ten minutes."

"Ten minutes since we had a perfusing rhythm." Addison finishes.

Maria couldn't believe that Dr. Bailey was acting like this, but deep inside, she knew. Bailey called the time of death before walking away. The sisters shared a look knowing that this was hard. "Dr. Bailey?" She looked at her. "I'm sorry."

Bailey didn't say anything as she walked out of the O.R.

Maria smiled as she was playing with her daughter. Meredith walked in and saw her sister playing making her smile. Her sister always managed to keep her mind off of things. "Let's go home, sweetie."

Meredith saw her walking out with her daughter in her arms. Maria always knew how to focus on things that matter to her the most. She never had to go through heart break like I do.
