Today was our magical testing day. Nadia had called in sick yesterday so that we could practice all day. Nadia was so powerful she could literally change the molecular structure of things whereas I could make a book float for about five seconds. So I knew Nadia's level was going to be on par with some of the strongest witches in history. Aleisha was half Dark Elf which means that shes had a natural connection to mana since birth. This was because Elves were the chosen guardians of mana throughout the ages. I didn't know why I could use magic. I grew up in an orphanage and I had no idea who my parents were.
I had gotten up early this morning and made breakfast with both Nadia and Aleisha. We were just so nervous about the testing that we had trouble sleeping the night before it. We were having a feast of pancakes, freshly squeezed orange juice and a fresh brewed coffee pot. We all ate slowly, more than likely hoping to prolong the meal together as we were all just so afraid of the testing today. "Float the coffee pot to me" Aleisha told me most likely hoping to see if I'd improved at all yesterday. I did as she asked and the pot lifted and floated over towards her. "It wasn't shaking that time!" Aleisha said excitedly. The empty pot suddenly cracked. I slumped my head against the table. "I've got it" I heard Nadia say and then heard a little "ting" as I knew she had just repaired the coffee pot. I felt both my girlfriend's wrap their arms around me. "Your going to do fine babe. Just believe in yourself" Nadia attempted to comfort me. We heard a "woosh" sound and each of us stood up quickly and stood in line in front of who we knew must be the tester. "Good morning ladies" an old elf told us as she appeared in front of us. She was incredibly tall and yet slender and beautiful even with her elderly age. "My name is Magus LeMuire. I am a high elf with the ability of magic sensory touch. This ability allows me to sense your connection to mana and establish whether we can allow you entry into the La Mirage College". We stood so nervous unsure of what to say to the beautiful woman. "Just relax ladies. You've all been touched by destiny and so have already been placed within the College" the old elf explained. Both my girlfriend's looked at me in shock, unable to believe what they were hearing. "Excuse me elder, but what do you mean?" Aleisha asked just as confused as I knew Nadia and myself both were. She looked at Nadia "young lady the day you scryed your true loves, you created a prophecy. I cannot tell any of you of that prophecy but I can say it secured your places at the college". Nadia nodded seeming to understand. I was still completely in the dark but I'm sure she'd catch us up later. "Now as for your testing" the old elf stated as she opened a briefcase and pulled out a beautiful crystal roughly the size of her palm. "Will the young lady named Nadia please step forward and place out her hand. Nadia looked at us quickly before stepping forward and placing her hand forward. The woman dropped the gemstone into her hand. Nothing happened for a moment and then the room went pitch black as if all the lights suddenly went out. Then darkness started to pulse all different shades of green. I heard Nadia gasp before she gave the crystal back to the old Elven woman. The lights came back on to reveal the old woman was smiling widely. "A powerful witch we have here. You'll go far dear" she told Nadia before stepping towards Aleisha with the crystal. "Put out your hand young sister-kin" I could see the Aleisha was shaking and wanted nothing more than to comfort my girlfriend. When the crystal dropped into Aleishas hand the lights dimmed greatly. I looked at her closely and could see that her body was changing. Her size grew by at least two whole feet. Her skin glowed a dim blue and her ears became elongated with dark tips but it was her eyes that had me utterly fascinated. They were glowing a mesmerising shade of lilac. "Ah interesting" the Elf stated as she looked Aleisha's eyes closely. "A hero of the people, immortalised by prayer. Your future will be difficult and fraught with challenges" the old lady told Aleisha. She gave the crystal back and Aleishas body changed back to normal in a matter of seconds. "I take it you're the mystery human" she stated more than asked me. I stepped forward and put out my hands for the crystal. She chuckled lightly and put the crystal back into the briefcase. She summoned a small table with two chairs. "The prophecy states your power is too dangerous for my little crystal dear" she explained to me. I was so confused by that. My power had always been so little compared to my girlfriend's. She sat down in a chair and I sat across from her. She laid her hands out on the table. "Take my hands young one" she told me. I looked at both Aleisha and Nadia. They both indicated for me to do it. I took her hands and for a moment nothing happened. She opened her eyes and they were pure white. When she spoke it sounds like dozens of voices saying the same thing "connecting to the world's source mana is not for this child. As a lost fae she has her own source mana inside of her". She began to squeeze my hands and the room began to shake as if we were having an earthquake. "The child will either save all of magickind or destroy it. Fae were lost for a reason and now that she is found.." she suddenly let go of my hands and began to breath rapidly. It was almost as if something else had possessed her body and only now had she fought to regain control. I stood up quickly as if I'd need to catch her. She stood up as well, now seemingly normal once again. "I must be off now but before I do leave I should give you this" she told us before handing me a bracelet. "Every magical creature apart from Gods and Fae have to connect to mana. I just so happened to gave taught a God who made this charm to help him connect to his own mana at first. He no longer requires it so I'm giving it to you" she told me before leaning in close to my ear and whispering "Fairies are very powerful. So be wary of your own power dear". She waved us all farewell as she stepped through a portal and left.
