Xiao Zhan finished his work for today. Unhurried but without delay, he went down to the basement parking lot to get in his car and head straight home. He put his hand inside his pocket to get his car key but when he was about to pull out his hand, he felt another item in his grasp. Immediately already knowing what it was, Xiao Zhan took both of them out of his pocket.

Together with his car key, there was also Wang YiBo's calling card that Xiao Zhan received when they met a few days ago.

Xiao Zhan pursed his lips together, creating a thin line. He brought back the calling card inside before he pressed the car key, releasing a beep sound.

It was the usual traffic and he reached home with the usual travel time. But when he opened the door, it wasn't anything close to who usually welcomed him.

It wasn't Jianguo. Needless to say, it wasn't Xiao Zi or his daughter either.

What welcomed him couldn't be answered by the question 'who'.

But by a 'what'.

Because in front of Xiao Zhan, there was blood.

It was blood on the floor that welcomed him.

Xiao Zhan was stunned, frozen. Seeing blood wasn't a big deal for him as it had always been a part of his job. But it wouldn't be the same case if he saw it right inside of his own house.

He didn't know where he got the strength, he couldn't even feel his own body moving. But he knew he was walking slowly as his line of sight moved, following the trail of blood and leading him towards the living room.

There he found Jianguo on the floor, motionless and drenched, bathing in her own blood.

Xiao Zhan's body reacted faster than his mind as he rushed forward to Jianguo. His mind was filled with terror, anxiety and panic. But with his trained hands, even if he was no vet, he was able to confirm that Jianguo was still breathing although it was faint and quickly ripped off his shirt and wrapped it around the wounded body part.

His mind and body were thoroughly disconnected. Neither the tearing sound of his own shirt nor feeling his own hands moving fast were able to register in his brain.

In all honesty, he almost wanted to leave Jianguo right after he saw her critical situation.

Yes, it might have been utterly cruel to do so but Xiao Zhan had to prioritize who was the most important to him.

And it wasn't Jianguo.

But before he knew it, he found himself already rapidly attending Jianguo's wound.

In the last two weeks, his only companion had only been Jianguo. These past weeks had been depressing but... with Jianguo close to him, it was a little less lonely.
