05 - flower field

My dad hasn't been home for a few days and I know it's bad but I'm kind of worried.

I turn 18 tomorrow, he won't remember though.

I hate being vulnerable, a few weeks ago everyone thought I was strong and independent and I stood up to everyone but now, now Jake knows. I will never be the same to him.

Searching through my wardrobe I find a blue dress and put my hair into a half up half down.

I checked the fridge but my dad hasn't gone shopping in weeks, he doesn't have any money.

The only source of money we get is from my job at a diner. Suddenly my phone dings and it says Jade has arrived at my house.

"Milllllllllllieee" Jade barges in.

"Jade what are you doing here" there's a smug look on her face so I can tell she's hiding something but not something bad, something good.

"Just come with me" she pulls me into her car and we drive to a place near the woods. Ok, now I was getting a little worried.

"Are you going to kidnap me or something?" Jade still doesn't respond and takes me through the woods and I get a tiny cut on my leg from a thorn. We walk for about five minutes to a huge field of flowers and then that's when I spot it.

Brook, Ryan, Jake, Jade's crush and the girl I met called Alana.

"What" I stand confused.

"Happy birthday babes" holy. No one has ever done anything for my birthday.

I run up to everyone and give them a huge hug, except for Jake.

"Happy birthday Mils." for some reason there's an awkward tension between us.

"Yeah, thanks.."

"Drinks anyone?" Brook turns up the music and Ryan pulls out a huge cooler of drinks, he only got alcohol, does the football team never drink water or something?

"Truth or dare!?" Ryan yells
"Isn't that a game for 15 year olds" Brook responds
"Shut up let's play"

Everyone gathers round in a circle and we turn down the music.
"Okk truth or dare Jake" Alana says
"Truth"
"How many people have you slept with"

Half of the school maybe.

"Twelve people."
Less than I was expecting.

"Ouch"
Oops I said that out loud.

"Brook truth or dare" It's Jakes turn to ask now.
"Truth"
"Weirdest place you've done it"
So much talk about doing it...

"Church bathrooms"

"Oh my gosh!!!" Everyone gasps.
"Talk about sinning" Jade says.

"Millie truth or dare"
"Truth since it seems to be a pattern"

"How old were you when you know, did the birds and the bees"
"What are we third grade" Jake adds in.
Oh gosh, everyone's looking at me waiting for an answer.

"I haven't."
Everything goes silent and I don't dare to make eye contact with anyone.

I need to break the ice  "Ryan truth or dare"
"Both"

Oh ok...
"Is the person you like here tonight"
He hesitates for a moment but nods his head up and down.
"Go sit next to them"
Slowly Ryan stands up and walks towards the other side of the circle, my side.

Ryan came and took a seat next to me and Jades crush so either he's gay or...

I look over to Jake who is glaring at Ryan.

"Jake truth or dare" Ryan announces.
"Dare"
"Kiss the cutest girl in the circle"
Ryan and Jake eyes don't come off each-other and the tension is getting stronger.

Alana starts fixing her hair and readjusting her top.
Does she like- Jake?

Jake finally stands up and makes steps towards me and Alana, she was sitting next to me and her face was bright pink.

I already know who he's going to kiss so I take out my phone and start scrolling on Instagram.

Jake kneels in-front of both of us then takes my phone out of my hands.

I look up in confusion as he leans in.

Suddenly police car sirens go off and we see cars pulling up through the trees.

"Cops! Everyone hide!"

Jake takes my hand and pulls me down into the long flowers which hide us.

"Jake back there were-"
"Shhhh" He says putting his hand over my mouth.

I start to lean up but he pushes me down by rolling on top of me.

"Are you stupid stay down" He looks upwards through the grass "trying to send us to jail?"

After about ten minutes of being squashed they leave and Jake gets off me.

I definitely had too many drinks.
I quickly stand up but everything goes black and I fall to the ground.

Time passes and my eyes slowly open, I can see most of my friends walking away.

"It's fine guys I'll take her home."

"What where is everyone going"

I get lifted from the ground bridal style and am carried towards the forest. I decide it would be a good idea to roll out of whoever's arms it is but I bring them down with me.

"Mils why would you do that" Jake says from next to me.

"It's funny how we always end up together, you're just always here."

"Yeah, we're destined to be" He jokes.

Jake pulls himself up and puts his hand out for me to grab.
"You need to stop drinking so much" he chuckles.
I know he was joking but suddenly I got flashbacks to my dad.

I'm not going to become him. I'm not.

"Mils you ok?" He says waving his hand around in-front of my face.
"Oh yeah, let's go"

"What the fuck is that" I say pointing at our ride. "Of course you ride a motorcycle what was I thinking"

"On you get" He says patting the seat.
"No way"
Jake grabs me by the waist and plops me onto the bike. He acted as if I weighed nothing.

He gets on in-front of me and pulls my arms around his waist.

"Mils you might want to hang on tighter if you don't want to die tonight" I tighten my grip slightly and he starts the bike up.

I get distracted and let go of him for a moment.
"Millie!"
"Oops"
