A/N: I know I update like once every 2 months but thank you to the people to have continued to read, I'm so sorry 😭

The bus ride home is bumpy and unsettling, I'm not sure if it's because Noahs news or the fact I have to go home but there's a deep pit feeling in my stomach.
I hate it.

I don't say anything to anyone, not even Jake, I just need time to process.

When we finally pull up to school everyone jumps up in joy and pushes through the exit, I wait until the crowds are gone.

I grab my bag, sling it over my shoulder and start walking to my house.

I'm confused why I haven't gotten any messages from my dad all weekend, it's very unlike him.
It's either a "Where the fuck are you" or some drunk message with a threat floating around it.

I take a shortcut through a park and see families pushing their kids on the swings, sometimes I wonder if I missed out on things like those, important memories that shape you as you grow.

I slot my key into the door and unlock it.
Silence.

Accidentally, I throw my bag down hitting our hat stand but just as it tips I grab it, replacing it down.

Normally a small thing like that could anger my father easily, but still, silence.

I walk over to the kitchen and see a small note with messy handwriting covering it.

'Gone for a bit, be safe.'

No explanation, location, money, no nothing.
To be honest, I'm not shocked, he did this a lot as a kid but normally he leaves at least a time reference for when he'll be back.

I check the fridge.
Expired milk and beer is all that's there.

I pick up my keys and walk out to see the sun slowly, I'll just have to get some food at the diner down the road.

I open my bank app on my phone to discover I only have $64.70 in my account, I haven't done many shifts at my job lately so I've been low on money.

When I reach the diner I see a few kids from some of my classes, I don't really feel like interacting with people right now.

I continue walking down the road, I'm not really sure where I'm going but I don't care.

A car pulls up beside me and Ryans head pokes out the window.

"Need a ride somewhere?"

"No, just walking around?"

He investigates my face before stopping the car completely.

"Come on, you need an emergency sleepover."
A small smile crawls onto my face as I reach for the car door.

To think about it, Ryan and I have never really hung out but after he came out to me we have been a lot closer.

"You eaten since we got back?" He asks me.

I'm deep in thought so it takes me a few seconds to respond.

"Oh, uh no."
"Don't worry I make the best spaghetti ever."

I want to ask him about Devin, something isn't right with him and I have a feeling Ryan is involved.
Jade was non-stop texting me over our weekend away about Devin and how weird he was acting.
Every-time she tells me about another thing that happened with Devin I can't help but think about the look that Ryan and Devin were giving each-other by the bus before we left.

I'll just let him tell me himself.

We pull up to a standard suburb house and am greeted with a woman trying to pull her dog inside.
"Thats my Mom, Jenny"

The woman looks up and is a little surprised by my presence.

"Hello darling, Ryan didn't tell me he was having friends over, well that's alright, I'm Jenny," she has a bright smile on her face and her hair looks freshly dyed blonde.

"Nice to meet you, I'm Millie."
"I'm trying to get Pepper inside but bloody stubborn dog."

Pepper? Like the seasoning? I like it.

Ryan leads me inside and up the stairs to his room, on our way up I see 2 kids that look around 8 watching a movie and a girl that looks around 13 sitting at a kitchen stool doing homework.

Ryan must have a large family.

"If any of my siblings ask you for money I give you permission to hit them, they've earned way too much from begging people I bring over."
I laugh a little thinking about that situation.

"I uh- heard about Noah by the way... penny for a thought?" I can tell he's trying to be respectful, I love him for that. We both fall into his bed and he waits for my response.

"I don't think I've worked out my thoughts quite yet." He nods slowly before standing up abruptly.
"I promised you spaghetti, I'll be right back!"

I hear the door creek open so I glance to see if he has forgot something but instead see bright, long hair fall through the gap.
It's the girl who was doing her homework when I walked in.

"Hi?" I say with a small smile. She opens the door wider and shyly walks towards the bed.
"Hi, my name is Sierra. Are you Ryans girlfriend?"
I giggle to myself at the thought.
"No just a friend, Sierra is a really pretty name."
A smile grows on her face and a warm feeling grows in my stomach.
"How old are you?" I question.
"13 but I'm 14 in a few weeks!" She explodes with excitement.
"Well happy early birthday Sierra," she comes closer to me and sits on the side of the bed.
"You're really pretty. It would be so cool if we could be sisters one day!"
I almost start crying tears of joy. No one has ever said that to me— I like it.

"Sierra what are you doing in here! You better not have said anything weird about me!" Ryan grumbles while walking in holding 2 plates of spaghetti. He wasn't lying, It looks delicious.

"How do you even become friends with such a weirdo like him," she whispers to me.

"Out!" Ryan repeats.
"Whatever," she rolls her eyes and pokes her tongue out at him as she walks out of the room.

"Sorry about her," he says handing me one of the plates.
"Don't be, shes funny."
For a moment I almost forgot about Noah. Seeing Ryans family heals me in a way, even though I only just met them.
"Come on eat up!" Ryan rushes.

The rest of the night becomes a blur of laughter and fun. I dread it ending.
