18 - collapsed beds

"Get the fuck away from her."
Noah stares him in the eyes and then finally turns away.

Jake stands there for a few seconds and then comes to my side.

"Are you ok?" Jake says looking down at my leg.
"Yeah it's just a tiny cut I'll survive. I'm not made of glass you know."
"I beg to differ," he replies.

He helps me up and we make our way inside.
"Let's go play the never have I ever game in the living room!"

"You sure?"
I nod up to him.

We walk in to see people sitting in a circle with drinks in-front of them.

"Oh guys come sit here!" Oscar yells patting the floor next to him.

We both take a seat and Oscar hands us a beer each.
Jake takes mine and opens it for me.
I send him a smile.

"Ok we can start now, if someone says 'never have I ever blah blah blah' and you have then you must take a sip of your drink." Oscar says.

I don't know many people at this party but they all seem nice enough.

"Never have I ever had a thing for someone in this circle," a girl starts.

I look around as people slowly lift their drinks up.
Out of the corner of my eye I can see Jake and Oscar also lifting theirs up.
I think for a second and then take a sip of my beer. I can feel both of their eyes on me. I hate being in the middle.

"Never have I ever had people fight over me," another person says.

Jake and I both take a sip of our drinks.
At the start of the year I would think only Jake would have to drink to that.

"Never have I ever stolen."
Finally one I don't have to drink to.

A few more rounds go on until we both finish our drinks.
"Can we go now?" I ask Jake and he nods yes to me.

"We're gonna go now," I tell Oscar and a sad face appears on his face.
"Damn but the party was only just getting started."

"Sorry."

I open the door into my room and flop onto my bed.
"I missed sleeping."

I hear a thump and look over at Jake who's bed just collapsed.
"Oh shit," he whispers.

"It's fine let's just go tell someone," I start to get up but he grabs my wrist.

"It's fine, everyone's either at the party or asleep. Plus there's another bed."
I look at him in confusion then realise what he meant.

"No way, you're not sleeping in my bed."
"Please." He looks at me like a sad puppy dog.

I think for a second.
"Fine but only because there's no one here right now to get you a new one."

Two people in a single bed. Great.
I grab my things and make my way to the bathroom down the hall.
While I'm brushing my teeth Alana comes to the sink next to me.
This is awkward.

"Did you say something to Jake?" She asks.
Of course.

"No why?"
"He keeps ignoring me even though we were getting along really well."
I have literally never seen them talk.

"Don't know sorry."
I grab my things and start walking to the door.

"Do you know which room he's staying in?"
Oh no. She would fight me if she found out.

I shake my head no and walk quickly out of the bathroom.

When I open the door to my room I see Jake reading on my bed.
"Put the book away I want to sleep."

He looks up from the book and reluctantly puts it away.

"Move, I sleep next to the wall."
He shuffles over and I sit down next to him.

"Do you really need to sleep without a shirt on."
"You're really bossy Mils did you know that."

I roll my eyes at him and lay down facing the wall.
The lights turn out and I feel him laying towards me.

An arm wraps around my stomach and pulls me slightly closer to him.

My heart races and I start to fiddle my feet around.

"Stop doing that." He says quietly.
I turn around so I'm facing him and open my eyes.
We're very close.
His eyes slowly open and meet mine.
"You okay?" He asks still whispering.
"Yeah."

He seems tired so he closes and opens his eyes a lot.
I stare at him and think about how nice he is to me. He always tries to protect me even if he fails sometimes.

"I like you." I blab out.
"I like you to Mils." He's barely staying awake.

"No, I really like you." My heart starts beating faster than I can handle.
His eyes open wider.

"More than friends?" He questions.
I nod slowly.

A smile forms on his face.
He leans forward and kisses me.
I freeze in shock for a second but then start to kiss him back.

I start to relax and my heart rate goes back to normal.
I feel his hands drawing shapes on my back which comforts me in a way.

We back away from another and I stare at him again.
He reaches upward and places a kiss on my forehead.
I feel a small smile on my face.

"I had a crush on you since you came to our school."
I giggle at his words.
"That's funny because I hated you," I respond.
"Go to sleep idiot," He whispers.
I listen.

I wake up to hear knocking on my door, Jake groans from beside me.
It's like 6am.
Jake starts to roll off the bed and makes his way to the door.
"Hello?" He says opening it.
"Jake hey, can we talk." I hear Alanas voice.
Why is she here so early?
OH SHIT, ALANA.

I pull the cover over my head and don't make a noise.

"Nows not a great time, maybe later?"
"Oh, ok. Yeah sure we can talk later."

I hear the door close and Jake starts laughing.
The bed dips as he sits on it.

The cover gets lifted over my head and Jake is still laughing.

I throw my hand out to hit him but he catches it and places a kiss on the top of it.

I groan and stuff my face into my pillow.
I hear Jakes chuckles get further away until the door opens and he walks out of our room.

Where is he going?
