History Class

03 - stall talks

I walk into history to see Sadie sitting on Jake's lap and Jade in the corner reading.

Swiftly I sit in my seat and pull out my phone. I know people are giving me weird looks but I ignore them.

Today I wore sweatpants and a hoodie to school to cover up my bruises but it's 83 degrees out.

(83 Fahrenheit/28 Celsius)

I also tried my best to cover a big bruise next to my eye with foundation and concealer but I don't know how long it will stay on because of the weather.

"Aren't you hot Millie?" Jade says to me looking concerned.

"No It's a good temperature" no the fuck it isn't, I'm sweating so bad.

I look over at Jake but he's already looking at me and also looks concerned, luckily our teacher walks in and my eyes snap away from him.

"Millie why so much covering up, I saw your body at the party. No need to hide it" One of the disgusting boys from Jake's friend group says to me.

"What the fuck did you just say to me"

"C'mon don't act like you don't like it, you practically asked for me to look at it"

I stand up from my seat and slap him against his cheek.

"Amelia! after school detention today!"

"Did you hear what he said to me!"

"Don't make it two."

"This class is bullshit"

I grab my stuff and walk out the door. Just before I leave I make eye contact with Jake and scoff.

Who can watch that happen and not say anything?

I slide down the bathroom door and cry into my sleeve when I hear the next class bell ring.

"Millie?"

"Jade go away"

"It's Brook" the sidekick...?

"What do you want"

"I know how it feels." how on earth?

"what feels?"

"to be sexualised of your body, to be cat-called and have everyone say things behind your back that makes you uncomfortable" I hear her take a deep breath in and continue with her sentence "Alec, the one who said that to you, he uh took advantage of me at a party last year"

"He raped you?..."

"Yeah." I unlock the stall door and let her come inside.

"Don't stop fighting against them, don't let them win."  I know it's cheesy but it's nice of her to say.

I hum and look down at my feet.

Suddenly I'm pulled into a tight embrace and I relax into her arms, I haven't been hugged in years, other than Jade but she rarely does it anyways.

"Thank you"

"You're better than them, I promise you. Don't let them step on you." she lets go and wipes a tear from my cheek. "I have to go, Sadie is waiting but you can message me if anything happens." she unlocks the stall, gives me a wave and then she's gone.

To be honest, she did make me feel a little better. Fuck I'm going to be late for gym.

I run to the field where everyone looks back at me.

"I'm here..."

"Ok now everyone's here today we will do swimming because of the heat so could everyone pick someone from the football team to partner up with for our swimming game."
