Monday morning they woke up to it snowing. Regulus had to drag himself out of bed, he could already feel a migraine coming on. He could hear voices coming from downstairs, it sounded like James, Remus and Peter, and they seemed to be arguing about some ridiculous topic.
Regulus truckled downstairs, following the trail of loud voices.
"Good morning baby Black!" James greeted cheerfully.Regulus stayed silent. It was too early for words.
"Ouch, are we fighting?" To this, Regulus shrugged and sat down on the couch.
"Is this what a divorce is like?" James questioned."I think you've got to be married before you can get a divorce," Peter piped in.
"Unless they just didn't invite us to their wedding," Remus commented.
"I see how it is then," Peter uttered.
Regulus scrunched his nose, "Why would I marry that oaf?"
"You know, words can hurt," James said, holding a hand over his heart, or trying to, he ended up putting his hand over the wrong side.
"I know, that's why I used them," Regulus replied with a bored expression. "Where's my brother?" He asked.
"He doesn't let anyone see him without his makeup on," James joked.
"He's fixing his hair," Remus explained, "-and has been for the past forty-five minutes."
"Hm, well if someone could do me a favour and throw a snowball at the back of his head later, that would be appreciated," Regulus said, rolling his eyes at his brother's obsession with his hair.
"Will do. So, Regs, Reggy, Reggo, what's gotten you in this lovely mood this fine morning?" Asked James.
"It's morning," He stated.
"Besides the fact that you're not a morning person?"
"I have a migraine, was woken up to you three shouting after only getting three hours of sleep, and it's snowing," He responded dryly.
"I understand your attitude for the first and third things, but you've got to stop being such a Scrooge," James shook his head, skipping over the second point.
"What did you just call me?" Regulus gave the older boy an odd look.
"Sorry, I've been showing him some muggle films," Remus chuckled.
James' face brightened up, "You should show Regulus these films."
"No thank you" Regulus grimaced.
"Then we should at least play some muggle board games," He insisted.
"Actually, that's a good idea," Remus backed him up.
"We could play Monopoly or Clue," Peter offered.
"I have both in my bag,"
"Why do you keep... muggle board games in your bag?" Regulus questioned.
Remus shrugged, "It's always fun on cold days, besides, James asked me to bring them."
"Which one's Clue again?" Asked James.
"The murder mystery game," Remus replied.
"Yes, let's play that one!" James urged.
The group shared a few more words before Remus stood up, "I'll go grab the game, I'll also find Sirius, it's better with more people," He said before walking out of the room and down the hall.
Euphemia Potter had entered the room briefly before Remus had returned to ask the teens about breakfast, they decided to wait until after they'd played a game of Clue before having breakfast.
Once Remus returned, he had the board game resting underneath his arm and Sirius trailing behind him with his freshly styled hair.
Remus with the help of Peter set up the board game and started explaining the rules.
"Basically, each player has a turn to roll the die and you'll move your assigned token that many spaces or into one of the rooms. I've already put a random card in this envelope," Remus held up the envelope. "And you'll get a chance to make a suggestion of who the killer is, what room it was in and the weapon they used. Players will try and prove them wrong with the cards they have in their hands. Once you think you know the killer, you may make your final accusation. Does that make sense?" He asked."I think?" Regulus said in a question-like tone.
"I feel like there are many ways to make the game less confusing, like why are there so many cards?" Sirius questioned.
"That's probably true and I don't know, for the visuals I guess,"
"Can I be the red one?" James asked.
"That's Miss Scarlet, and go ahead. Somehow she's always the killer," Remus shrugged, and it's true whenever he's played, Scarlet is always the killer, no matter how well you shuffle the cards.
"I'll be Professor Plum," Stated Peter.
Sirius ended up being Mrs. White, making a joke that maybe it was the good version of his mom. Regulus was Mr. Green while Remus was Colonel Mustard.
"So how do we know who died?" Regulus questioned.
"It's Mr. Boddy, the owner of the mansion, we're just solving the murder," Remus cleared up.
Turns out the five of them should never be trusted to solve a murder case, it took them ages.
"Yellow, in the library with the dagger" Sirius guessed before being proven wrong about 'yellow'.
"Plum, in the kitchen with the lead pipe?" James guessed, being proven wrong about the location.
"Mrs. Peacock, in the hall with the rope?" Guessed Regulus, before Remus showed him his card of the hall.
The game which would normally take an hour took three hours. Euphemia interrupted the game to get them to take a break for breakfast but they refused, wanting to get back to their game, which they took very seriously.
"Mrs. Peacock, in the dining room, with the candlestick?" Remus finally guessed, guessing correctly, ending the game.
"NO! I was so close! I had narrowed it down to either the candlestick or revolver," Sirius complained at the loss.
"Where's the fun if the killer wasn't even one of the players?" Regulus scoffed.
"The game is solving the murder, not committing the murder, Regulus." To this, he shrugged.
"Alright, kids, breakfast is ready, come and eat before the charm to keep it fresh wears off!" Euphemia yelled from the dining room.
It was nearly time for lunch by the time they'd finished their french toast but Euphemia didn't complain, it was just one less meal for her to cook.
"So, what are the afternoon plans?" Asked Fleamont.
"I don't know, but I think at some point we're going to have to play another round of Clue, now that we all understand the rules," said James.
They ended up spending the afternoon outside, leaving the board game rematch for another day, instead, they had a snowball fight and slid down the hill a couple of times. They also figured out why Regulus hated the cold so much, he had no winter gear. He had some winter robes that protected him from the cold, same with boots but they were fancy dragonhide boots, not winter boots, he didn't even have gloves and ended up having to borrow James' old winter wear. He still hated winter, but at least now he was slightly less cold.
