They couldn't stay in the house any longer. Euphemia had knocked on all of their doors, telling the teens to go pack and that they were going to stay at the leaky cauldron for the rest of the break, she of course understood if any of them wished to return to their families or even to school but either way, she was getting out of the house.

They started to pack their things, Euphemia advised them to make sure they had everything they needed for school so they'd never have to return. The Potter family vaults were packed with shiny galleons, she'd have no problem with buying a new house, maybe this time they'd live somewhere smaller, the house was always far too big for Fleamont and her, especially once James went off to Hogwarts, more and more part of the manor were left forgotten about and collecting dust.

They'd just barely finished their packing when Euphemia went to fetch her wand, which she'd left in the conservatory, that's where she had found her way to after leaving the sitting room very early that morning.

"Hey, Reg..." Sirius said softly, appearing beside his brother. "That howler sounded pretty harsh..." When Sirius had heard his mother's voice, he had to stop himself from going to his brother, he wanted to stay with James but he also wanted to be there for his brother, of course James wouldn't have blamed him from going, he had to stop himself from jumping up too.

"She's said worse to my face," He shrugged.

"Trust me, I know... but-" Sirius was cut off by a cry for help, it was Euphemia.

The boys followed the noise, running upstairs to the second story, and making a sharp turn into the conservatory.

They had been so close to getting out of the house, this could have been avoided.

Euphemia was barely breathing. Her pale, almost lifeless body layed on the floor.

"Mom..." James knelt down right beside the woman.

"James..." She managed to mumble out.

The others crowded around them. Euphemia was stabbed with a dagger and the very dagger was still launched into her body, just barely missing her heart. Euphemia was smart by not taking out the dagger, unlike James in the dream, Regulus still rolled his eyes at his stupidity in that fake scenario.

The detectives were wrong, the house was not safe. They were still very much in danger.

What were they supposed to do, how could they save her? She was too close to death. By the time any of them managed to go find their wands, she would be dead and by using Euphemia's wand they'd probably kill her instantly, she was in such a delicate place.

Their time soon ran out as her eyes blinked closed and didn't reopen.

"No..." James mumbled to himself, this couldn't be happening, this wasn't happening.

Sirius pulled his brother in all but blood into a bear hug. There was nothing more to be done, they couldn't rewrite the stars.

"What the fuck," Regulus muttered to himself, earning a glare from the others. He hadn't meant to say that out loud, but it couldn't just be that they all had weird nightmares of murder and now this, someone had to have been setting them up, he refused to believe otherwise. Maybe they were hit with a curse to all have a shared murder-filled dream, and then they were dreaming now, no one was actually dead, right?

By the sounds of things, Sirius woke up when he died, the same thing happened to him. He wasn't too sure about the others, hell Peter didn't mention him having any sort of weird dream but he was definitely in Regulus' dream, maybe it was Peter behind it all, Regulus hated that he was having these thoughts.

Would Peter do this? What would be his goal, to drive them insane? To mentally torture them for being what, bad friends? Regulus hadn't treated Peter any less than he treated anyone else.

Regulus didn't notice how long he'd been staring off into space. Once he came back to reality, he realized that he was staring right at Euphemia's bloody and pale body, he'd seen way too much blood lately.

They had to call the Aurors. Maybe now they'd realize that they weren't safe, but then what? James was now an orphan, his parents were dead, where would he go?

He was only in his sixth year at Hogwarts, he still had another year before he would graduate and be a legal adult, he'd have to be put into custody of some random family, who knows what would happen then.

Could you get expelled from Hogwarts for using underage magic if you were to call the Aurors after the murder of your parents? The ministry couldn't possibly be that petty, right?

No, they most definitely could, the ministry was corrupt.

"We need to get out of here," Remus commented, breaking the silence. If they stayed any longer they could end up like Mr. and Mrs. Potter.

"Remus is right," Regulus agreed, their bags were already packed, they could floo to somewhere safe and then notify someone of Euphemia's condition.

"I'm not leaving," James argued. It was his home and where his parents took their last breaths.

Sirius stuck his ground, "Well if Prongs isn't going, nor am I."

"Neither of you can stay here," Remus countered, hugging himself with his arms, "Wormtail, are you coming?"

Peter stayed silent for a moment, he didn't want to stay there any longer, so he nodded his head in response.

"We're all leaving and I'm sure as hell not leaving you two here," Remus uttered.

"I can't leave," James spoke in a low tone.

"Potter," Regulus spoke, "things won't get better if you stay here,"

"And they won't very well get better if I leave," James sobbed, "I can't leave her here."

"The three of us could go and call the Aurors, and then it's up to them," Peter offered.

Regulus shook his head. "I'm not leaving my brother here, those two need to stop being stupid before they get themselves killed," Regulus gave them a cold stare.

"Fine, I'm going to go find my wand and call the ministry," Remus turned and walked out of the room.

"Mooney wait! Sirius yelled.

Remus stopped in his path and turned around, walking back to the doorway, "Yes?" He asked.

"They'll try and send Prongs away," Sirius looked worried.

"And then they'll send you back to your family," James realized. "And Regulus," he added. "He'd be forced to spend the rest of break with them too," James pointed out.

Fuck, Regulus hadn't thought about that.
