They weren't allowed to visit Sirius, even once he was out of surgery. Eventually, a woman wearing long black robee came up to the three boys, asking them questions. She introduced herself as the lead detective who was taking the case and proceeded to ask them various questions, starting with, "Where are your boy's parents?".

That's when they explained the entire story. They first explained how the Potters had invited them home for the holidays, they had met them at the train station and then flooed to their manor, that was Sunday evening.

It wasn't until Wednesday that they noticed anything unusual. They explained how they went to Diagon Alley with Euphemia Potter while Fleamont stayed home, they explained how they went straight upstairs once they got back and watched a muggle film until they heard Euphemia get back and give out a blood-curdling scream as she found her husband's dead body lying on the dining room floor, blood pouring out of his head.

They then went on to say how the detective that worked his case concluded that it was a suicide, even though it was quite obviously not. They told her how the next day, Euphemia was murdered with a dagger in their conservatory, leaving them all alone.

Then, they recounted how Peter was murdered, hung with rope in front of the door. That's when they flooed out of the manor and spent the night in the leaky cauldron, somewhere they hoped they could catch a safe night's sleep before dealing with the previous events the next day.

That led them to the present, Friday, December twenty-fourth. Regulus was the one who told her all about how they were just about to leave the cafe, 'the coffee joint' when Sirius went into the washroom. It was quite busy so they were standing next to the door, waiting for his brother to return when there was a loud 'bang' type noise coming from around the corner in the cafe, they couldn't grab a better look at who or what it was as people were either rushing out of the cafe or towards the sound with their wands raised.

That was basically all they had to tell, they tried to fit in all pieces of information that they thought could be useful, but they knew they still missed loads of possibly valuable information.

The lady spoke with them back and forth for the next half hour, trying to make sure to get a timeline for each detail and any possible suspects who could really be anyone with whom they possibly interacted with and noticed any odd behaviour towards any of them.

The detective ended up stepping away from the group for a few minutes to try and get in contact with the man who took over Fleamonts case to get any information he had gained, such as a more specific timeline that he would have managed to get based on body temperature. After death, a body will lose approximately 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit per hour(-16.9⁰C), so he would have the timeline down to the hour.

They still didn't have any more information on Sirius' condition, plenty of med-witches were passing by but none were stopping, except the one woman who stopped to talk with a man who was also in the waiting room, but no words for them.

Finally, the doctor came back. "Sorry, for the wait, I'm sure you've all been waiting to hear about your family member,"

"Yes, we have so let's skip the introductory and get on with it," Regulus snapped.

"Right, of course. So, it looks like he won't be waking up today, but let us hope for tomorrow," He said sincerely.

"What does that mean?" Regulus asked.

"Is his condition getting better at least?" Remus asked at the same time.

"We can't be too sure, we're still monitoring him, but the surgery went well, the bullet was removed from his upper right shoulder, our biggest concern right now is making sure the wound doesn't get infected. He's on antibiotics but I'm afraid he'll be in a lot of pain once he wakes up, we can only give him so many pain potions while he's in such conditions,"

"So, he's going to live?" James asked slowly.

The doctor took a moment to compose himself. "Well, there's always going to be a chance of something going wrong, we'll be able to tell more once he wakes up, hopefully, tomorrow," The man explained.

It was already quite late, they had spent all afternoon sitting in the hospital waiting room. The boys didn't know what they were supposed to do. They were told by the detective lady that she'd figure out where they were to go, they'd probably be returning to Hogwarts by morning, or that's what she said. She had to still get in contact with the Lupin and Black families first, for now, they were staying the night in the hospital waiting room.

The person who caused this whole mess has still yet to be caught. Again, because of his use of muggle weaponry, no magical trace was left. If only wizards had the same technology as muggles, then they could look back through security camera footage and would have caught the murderer by now.

They ate dinner in the hospital cafeteria. That being said, it wasn't good. The chicken looked still raw in the middle so they threw it out, even after the detective lady -who they still didn't know the name of- kindly paid for it.

Back in the waiting room, Regulus had his legs thrown over the arm of the chair, Remus had curled up on his chair, his knees pulled to his chest, and James was laying down with his legs going under the arm of the chair next to him as he layed sideways in a chair.

The lights were still ever so bright in the hospital. Between that, and the lack of windows, it was impossible to tell what time it was, but they knew it was either late in the evening or already nighttime, judging by Professor McGonagal's tired, yet worried look in her eyes when she apparated in, it was sometime in the night.

Neither Regulus, James, nor Remus was asleep, but they were resting their heads on whatever surface they could to take heavy weights off their shoulders. They were relieved when their transfiguration professor appeared, it was nice to have a familiar face.

"Professor McGonagall?" Remus questioned at her sudden appearance.

"Misters. Lupin, Potter, Black," She looked just as relieved to see them as they were her, it was obvious from her eyes that she had been worrying for her students. She had been sent a patronus explaining briefly their situation, she didn't know the exact details, but she knew that she'd be taking them back to Hogwarts where their parents would be able to bring them home from there if wanted.
