Chapter 18

Argo is...trying. He is. Truly. After what his sister told him about Jace's bloodline and the Twins telling him about the human's many scars. He's tried to be accepting of Marley's human but there was just something about her he couldn't shake off.

Was it prejudice? Old Hatred? Probably, he won't lie. A human. A human hunter. They were the ones that killed his mate, his one and only. The mother of their children. And he just simply couldn't forgive the species that could so callously take away a mother from her pups. All because they wanted wall decor in their cabin.

But...

He is trying. At least, he hoped he was.

'She's too young to be taking care of a pup already.' Argo thought as he stayed well-hidden in the foliage that surrounded the human's home, his eyes focused as he watched his daughter and the mer pup watch the human as she skinned a deer.

"This is pretty gross." The pup mumbled as she warily watched Jace strip off a large piece of the deer's hide with ease before she looked away. A weak 'bleh' sound left the girl's throat as she stuck out her tongue. Marley released a soft huff through her nose as she leaned towards Ronan to nudge her shoulder against hers.

"It's nature, Ronan. Besides-you don't want deer hair getting caught in your throat, do you?"

"Ew, no." A shudder ran down the pup's spine and made Marley laugh when she took notice of it. She went to nuzzle the top of Ronan's head, the mer letting out a weak 'oomph' when Marley had unintentionally knocked her onto her back with the force of her nuzzlement.

A soft huff left Argo's snout at the two before his gaze went towards Jace, his ears moved in a swift flick when he noticed Jace was looking directly at where he was hidden.

Bright blue stayed locked onto light brown for a few moments before Argo released a low huff and rose up onto his paws. His tail swept low as he turned away from the cabin and began his trek back towards his pack's territory.

"Welcome back, pop." Lupus greeted as she lounged on the soft grass that surrounded the family hut. Argo let out a low grunt in return as he passed her and walked inside.

"Didn't I tell you to leave Marley and that human be already?" Rigel husked out from the left side of the hut. The younger of the two turned towards his sister. She was soaking up the sunlight that pierced through the holes of the clay hut's walls that acted as makeshift windows.

He simply let out another grunt in response.

"Don't grunt at me, boy." Rigel growled as she finally opened her eyes to glare at her little brother.

A growl rose up in Argo's throat that was quickly smothered when Rigel's bright-blue eye grew even brighter.

"Argo. I told you. Marley's fine. Leave. Her. Be." Rigel spoke, her voice possessed a weak flange as her wolf awakened at the feeling of Argo and Rigel's anger.

Argo had every right to worry about his pups but it was starting to become overbearing. Besides, its been nearly a year. If the human wanted to do something to Marley, she'd have already done it already.

Humans were awful impatient after all.

"Marley is my daughter. And if I want to keep an eye on that human every day until my death, I will." Argo growled back, his lips peeled back as his canines lengthened. Russet red fur slowly began to sprout on his forearms.

"Ugh, you're so stubborn! Marley can take care of herself. And the human possesses Wolfe's blood, she's fine. If a bit dense." The flange seemed to grow more prominent as Rigel's canines grew in return to Argo's anger. Her bright-blue eye grew even brighter, it now possessing a glow around the iris.

"And I should just take your word?! Your loyalty to Wolfe blinds you."

"To what?!"

"That that creature is still a HUMAN!" Argo all but shouted.

Rigel's snarl grew weak, her lips moving back to cover her fangs as she watched her little brother's own lips begin to quiver. Her ears twitched when she heard the hitch in his breath.

"I promised Lucy to keep our pack safe. I promised my mate to keep her pups safe! I will not have them be hurt the way you were! And I will not have them be slaughtered the way she was!" He continued. His voice was firm as he spoke even when it cracked with nearly every word. His eyes bright.

Not from his wolf's glow. No.

They were bright from the tears that were brimming.

"Scarred or not, Wolfe's kin or not-Jace is still a human. And I just can't ignore that. I can't trust a human. Wolf-blooded or not."

"A human's a human. They'll always be cruel." He whispered brokenly as he turned around. He was already shifted by the time he crossed the hut's threshold, his tail low. Tears ran down the already long-since stained tear tracks as he continued to walk away.

Where to exactly?

He wasn't really sure.

Merry Chrysler!
And Happy New Year!

(The Poll doesn't relate to the story but I need a deal breaker. I've been collecting Pokémon Cards again and I'm debating on getting a box bundle for Black Bolt or Mega Evolution, a lil crimus gift for myself)

Love ya,
