Amelia had no idea who Mrs. White was talking to, but she knew that she had to sneak out later. She shoved her food into the backpack and slung it on her shoulder. Then she opened the window and stared at the world outside. The sky was darkening as Amelia jumped out the window and landed on the ground near a bush. She began to run towards her house when the lights of the Orphanage came on. Someone climbed down the creaky stairs. Amelia ran faster. Just then, she heard the sound of a car motor begin and before she knew it, headlights were pointed at her. Thinking quickly, she scanned the area for somewhere to hide. All she saw were a few scraggly bushes and short trees. Amelia sighed with defeat. There was nowhere to go. So she sat down and waited. But Mrs. White never came. So Amelia got up and looked around. The car was nowhere in sight. Currently she was at the corner of a street, houses were in front and behind her. Every few minutes a car would drive past her and then everything would be pitch black again. Amelia knew she was lost, she didn't recognize any of the signs near her. She couldn't even read them! Oh why, oh why, had she tried to go home? Amelia jogged onto the street and followed it for a few more minutes. Lots of cars appeared and they all seemed to be going back, not forward. Amelia wondered why. A few minutes later, she found out. A huge sign loomed in front of her. It said, DEAD END. Amelia groaned and turned around. Then she pulled out her TechTab and tapped the GPS icon. She waited for it to load and find her location. Lympe Street. Where was that? Even though Amelia knew the exact address of the Orphanage, she didn't feel like going there. What about Mrs. White? She would be worried if Amelia didn't show up. Should she go home or to the Orphanage? Amelia thought hard and made her choice. Home. 1225 River Oak Bend. Home.
