I felt instant irritation at his close proximity to my face. My eyes blistered with anger. I waited for his next arrogant comment, probably a jab at my current state.

"I'm sorry... I shouldn't have scared you like that." he apoligized. My anger clouded immediately. I was taken aback, almost buying his apolgy for a brief moment.

I figure, well they're just going to kill me anyway. No reason not to bite back.

"Don't lie to me!" I retorted edgily.

For a second, his wall fell, his arrogant wall of perfection. A look of honest emotion flashed across his features, giving him the look of an innocent boy.

It lasted less than a second.

"You don't believe me?" he smirked.

"As if you didn't hear me the first time." I snorted.

"Damn! Baby got bite!" he chuckled. I scowled.

"I brought you some food." he continued.

My words caught in my mouth. He drove a hard bargain. I striggled to maintain my composure.

"I... I don't care. You're a liar, and a bastard. You're just a kidnapper. A monster."

He let out an agitated yell, fed up with me.

"You bitch!" he snarled. I glared him down, and then he was gone.

I blinked. Gone.

The food was gone, too. I groaned. This whole place was sketchy as shit.

Suddenly I heard them talking outside of my room.

"You didn't give her the food?"

"No, I'm just a heartless bastard and a monster," he sounded upset. I could've laughed. They were trying to trick me.

"She'll die of starvation, idiot. You know their diet is different!"

That comment registered with me after a moment.

"You give it to her. I'm busy.... I have better places to be."

"Oh piss off, don't bite off more than you can chew." he snapped.

I pretended I didn't know they were talking when Jett walked into the room with the tray of food.

"Dinner is served, darling!" he cheered, setting it on my lap. He was good humored, I found it difficult not to smile just a little. I reminded myself not to fall for any tricks.

"Umm..." I wasn’t taking chances, even if I was starving.

"Oh, no poison, if that happens to be your train of thought."

To further prove his point, he took the lid off, revealing contents of meat, potatoes, and gravy, and picked up a chunk of it with his fingers and ate it.

I accepted that as proof, and scarfed it down. I was completely occupied with the food for a solid half an hour, taking my time to make sure I didn't get sick.

After I'd finished, I set the dish down on the floor for lack of better space. I sat in silence for a little while, digesting both food and my own thoughts.

"... their diet is different!"

What could Jett have possibly meant by that? Maybe they're vegans. Never trust vegans, my mother always said.

I heard the deep murmur of their voices again, this time further away. I slid out of the bed, and made my way over to the door, pressing my ear firmly to the wood.

My jaw dropped as I listened.
