Snooze- SZA

Flashback

"You look so pretty, baby."
Ephesia's  grandmother fixed her tiara once again before pinching her chunky cheeks.

It the day of Luca's Junior prom and he had invited her. She couldn't help but feel the butterflies erupting in her stomach as she got an incoming call from Luca Messiah.

"Oh God! He's here."
She covered her mouth with her hand before answering the phone.

"I'm outside, mama."
His voice came though smoothly on the other end of her line.

"Okay, I'm coming out."
She heard his chuckle as her shy tone.

"Alright."
Then click.

Her grandmother grabbed her hand and lead them into the living room.

Her long sleeve, deep plunge dress hugged her curves like a glove as her train flowed behind her. The black sequin sparkled as she shifted through the light bouncing off of the walls.

Her natural hair was straightened and flowing down her back in loose curls, perfectly framing her face.

A knock on the door broke Ephesia from her thoughts.
"Coming!"
Her heels clacked against the floor as her grandmother assisted her down the hall and towards the door.

Reaching for the door knob, Ephesia's hand shook nervously. Finally she opened the door to reveal a devilishly handsome Luca.
In his hands was a matching corsage to his pinned flower against his suit jacket.

"Hello beautiful."
His words deepened the blush against Ephesia's skin.

"Hi,"
She shyly tucked a piece of hair behind her ear.

"And hello Ms. Darden."
He said stepping into the home.

"Hi baby."
Ephesia's grandmother said eyeing Luca up and down. She found their friendship odd. Not  in a bad way, but their relationship was unique. Luca was the complete opposite of her granddaughter.

She was not silly, she knew that they liked each other. Though both of the young people did a good way of hiding it.

Luca grabbed Ephesia's delicate hand and slid the corsage onto her wrist before planting a kiss onto the back of her hand.

"Perfect."
He was too much for naive Ephesia, his simple compliments always seemed to get her smiling and blushing.

Ephesia's grandmother pushed the dates together to snap a couple of pictures before sending them on their way. But not before setting them a curfew. She knew that the only things open after 1am were legs and hospitals.

Luca wrapped an arm around her waist as they walked to his car.
"You look so beautiful, mama."
His warm breath tickled her ear.

"You look handsome as well, Luca."
She said as he opened the passenger door and allowed for her to slide in.

Rounding the hood, Luca entered the car as well and soon they were off to the venue.

The couple* entered hand and hand and Ephesia couldn't help but feel like all eyes were on her.
