The jail cell was nothing but four walls, a bed, and a dresser. Everything was grey. The lighting was artificial. She wondered how long she'd have to spend here to forget what a tree looked like or what the wind on a stormy day felt like. In this jail cell, she only knew when the morning came by the slim shaft of light that penetrated the air vent on top.

She has seen many prisoners rot away in cells like these, and so she knew that if she didn't get out of here soon, she too, would crack.

Not to mention, she couldn't even remember or figure out what happened.

At first, she thought that she did indeed murder Lord Furukawa, but that didn't make sense. Then she wondered whether she was framed by Lord Furukawa himself, but what kind of idiot would frame someone by taking their own life?

She had no evidence to defend herself with, and this couldn't be covered up since the knights had caused such a ruckus at the estate. She was certain all of Inazuma had heard about this incident by now. She only hoped that Ayato hadn't.

She put her hands together, hoping to unravel some lost memory, but her thoughts were disturbed by hurried footsteps. She lifted her head up to see Detective Heizou standing behind the bars — out of breath.

She quickly stood up, almost running closer to the bars. She took hold of them, and said, "Heizou! What are you doing here?"

Heizou replied between pants, "I'm the Detective in charge of this case, thankfully. I managed to get a hold of it despite our acquaintance."

[Y/N] let out a laugh, "Good... Very good! What's the situation outside?"

"It's not looking good for you, I'm afraid."

The woman gripped the bars, "Heizou, truly, I didn't do it! I don't remember anything that happened after I went to bed. Nothing at all."

The Detective frowned, "I know. I know. I'm not doubting you, [Y/N]. I'll just need more time to figure out what to do about this."

The woman cursed under her breath before walking away from the bars and sitting back on the bed. She stayed silent for a second, then inquired, "Is Ayato aware of this?"

Heizou shook his head, "I don't believe so."

[Y/N] smiled pitifully, "Of course. No sane doctor would tell him about this stupid situation that I got myself into while he's that ill."

"Is... the Commissioner truly in that bad of a state?"

The woman looked at Heizou, "Have there been rumours circulating?"

Heizou seemed hesitant at first, but was quick to answer, "Well you know how people are... always looking for something to gossip about."

[Y/N] groaned, rubbing her temples, "What did I expect?"

Speaking of doctors - an idea popped into Heizou's mind, and he cleared his throat before speaking, "You said you don't remember anything of what happened, yet you are certain you didn't kill him, right?"

[Y/N] shifted her eyes back to Heizou, and slowly nodded, "Do you believe we can use that somehow? Wasn't I just... sleepwalking or something of the sort?"

Unexpectedly, Heizou's face lit up, "No, no. You couldn't have killed someone without injuring yourself. Sleepwalking is rather complex and such cases are very rare... However, I believe we could do some... tests on you. If nothing pops up we could always... fake some documents, of course, and blame it on a disease."

[Y/N] remained silent, albeit dumbfounded.

And so Heizou continued to talk, "Well, with the Commissioner's help... It should be rather easy."
