After being here a couple days I'd gotten into the swing of things. Training in the morning, then weight training in the after noon and meetings with my trainer. And then at night I found that I love to just sit on the balcony and look up at the sky. It's nice not being so close to the ground, that way the hustle and bustle below isn't bothersom. But we do have a strict 11 o'clock cerfew.
I was sitting on the balcony leaning against the edge just watching the stars when I really started to think about my Mom. Sometimes I like to just talk to the sky because I know that somewhere out there she's watching over me and all I want to do is make her proud.
Suddenly I saw one of the stars flash like you see in the movies. I knew that was Mom. I smiled.
"Hey Mom. I really miss you. It's hard knowing that you won't able to see me but I know you're watching over me and I'm gonna make you proud. I promise." I got a little choked up.
--TOM'S POV--
I'd just gotten home from a late gym session and taken a shower. It was getting a little stuffy in the room so I decided a little fresh air would be good. I opened the door, it hardly making a sound. I heard someone talking and I couldn't help but eavesdrop.
"I know you're watching over me. I'm gonna make you proud I promise. And Dad and Addy. I miss her a lot too. Ever since you passed I've felt this deeper connection with her. You know, the other day she said she wants to be a diver too. So Dad said he signed her up for some lessons. You can never start to early. She misses you too. She tells me all the time. But I tell her what I always do. That you're always with her in her heart."
Listening to this girl talk made me think about my Dad. It'd been almost a year and a half since he passed. I missed him like crazy. Not having him here was killing me. I knew that all he wanted was to see me in our home Olympics but he's in a better place now I suppose.
I stepped forward wanting to see who the girl was but by the time I had stepped out she was gone. I was a little disappointed but I figured I see her again. Right?
I stood out on the balcony for a while longer looking up at the sky and watching the stars. Made me really think about Dad some more. He was always in my heart. And everytime I was on the platform I felt like he was there right next to me.
I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket.
From: Joules.
We can meet up and chat. I have tomorrow off.
I smiled. Took her long enough. I replied back.
To: Joules.
Brilliant! Meet me in the Dining Hall 9am.
I waited for her reply.
From: Joules.
See you then!
I smiled satisfied that I had finally broken her down enough for her to meet up with me. I knew when we first met that there was something special about her and there was some kind of connection. I don't know there was just something about her that pulled me in. I went inside climbing into bed smiling like a goon. Pretty sure Jack (my room mate, best friend, and fellow diver.) thought I was crazy.
--JOULES POV--
Somehow the talk with Moom made me want to give Tom the chance. Even when I talked to David he'd told me I should enjoy this experience. In his forst Olympics he was like me. Super focused and he wound up regretting it and missing out on fun times. So last Olympics he had fun and met other athletes and still kicked ass. I thought what the hell I'll live a little!
