Another 5 years had passed since Harwin and I announced our engagement. A couple months after that, we got married, and now we had a 4 year old son called Alexander, and another 2 year old son called Edward. Usually the boys would have taken the father's last name for their house, but, since my family was entitled the royalty of the North, Harwin and I decided that our family House would be Stark Instead of Strong. His father was not too happy about it, but oh well."Mother, can I go play with them?" Alex asked me as he pointed at Rhaenyra's children, technically meaning, his cousins.
"They are much older than you, Alex. You are going to get hurt." I told him. What was I doing trying to reason with a 4 year old?
"But father said that fighting with stronger opponents would make me a better fighter." Alex said.
"Father said that?" I asked, looking at Harwin with raised eyebrows.
"Yes." My son said nodding.
Harwin simply looked at me slightly panicked.
"Alex, sweetheart, why do you not go see your brother?" I asked him.
"Okay." Alex said as he walked towards Ed's bed on the other side of the room.
"My love..." Harwin said smiling as I walked towards him.
"Are you out of your mind? The child is 4 years of age! What are you doing telling him to fight stronger people?!" I whisper-yelled so that my son would not hear.
"I started training when I was his age." Harwin told me. "I did not think it was a big deal."
"Well, it is. I want him to enjoy his childhood for as much as he can without having to worry about such things as war." I told him.
"Mary... war is coming. You know this. With Rhaenyra birthing her third child today, Alicent will riot. It is not a far future until Aegon is of age." Harwin said.
"Aegon does not want the throne." I said slightly shaking my head. "He has told me that himself."
"Do you think Alicent cares?" He asked harshly, making me slightly glare at him. "I'm sorry. But, Alicent does not care if he wants it or not. She will do everything in her power to make it happen."
"Why couldn't your brother keep it in his pants?" I sighed.
"We both know it goes beyond that, love. She craves power... and I think your friend is helping her." He told me.
"Don't." I stopped him.
"I'm just saying, knowing how close they are, it is not that unlikely." He said, making me look down. I did not want to picture Criston betraying Rhaenyra... if he betrayed her, he would be betraying me. "Mary, I do not wish to have my sons defenceless during the war. I want them to know how to survive... how to win."
"You are right... but not yet." I told him.
"Fine. Once he turns 5, we will start introducing things to him slowly. Does that sound okay?" He asked me.
"Fine... I also do not wish my children defenceless." I sighed with a small nod.
"Great." He said as he pecked my lips.
Then, we were interrupted by a knock on the door, making Harwin groan.
"Come." I said loudly.
"Hey, Mary." Criston said with a small smile. "Strong."
"Cole." Harwin said in the same bored tone.
"Hey, Criston." I smiled.
"Uncle Criston!" Alex exclaimed as he came running towards Criston.
