I was lying awake with Rhaenyra, as we were hidden still in King's Landing.
Would Aegon listen to me? If I went to him, would he listen to me, or would he have me dead?
I know what Alicent thinks, but I need to know if he truly is gone, if the Aegon and I knew and loved is somewhere deep inside, or if he's dead.
"What are you thinking about?" Rhaenyra asked as she noticed me looking at the ceiling of the room Ser Steffon had found us.
"Aegon." I sighed truthfully.
"Why?" She asked me with furrowed eyebrows.
I hesitated.
"Do you think he would have my head on a spike if I went to speak to him?" I asked her.
"Are you insane?! Do not go near him!" She scolded.
"I keep thinking, what if I can prevent this?" I told her.
"Mary..." Rhaenyra sighed as she held my hands. "There is nothing we can do anymore. The Aegon you knew and loved is gone... you have to accept that."
Part of me knew what she was saying was true, and yet, another part of me kept asking 'what if?'.
I sighed as I nodded my head sadly.
We ended up falling asleep shortly after.
It was now the end of the next day, and we were following Ser Steffon that helped us get in King's Landing so we could get back to Dragonstone.
As we were walking towards the docs, I saw Aegon pass by a few meters in front of us. I was quick to push Rhaenyra towards a dark alley where she would not be discovered.
As if he was feeling something, Aegon turned and looked right at me.
Our eyes met, and I could barely recognise that boy.
He widened his eyes as started to walk angrily towards me. As he made his way towards me, I was quick to grab his arm and pull us into a dark corner, slightly away from Rhaenyra so he couldn't see her.
"How can you even show up here?!" He asked me angrily.
"I came to see you." I lied.
"To see me?" He scoffed. "What for? To tell me how you and your cunt of a Queen ordered to have my son beheaded?!" He whisper yelled.
"No!" I defended quickly. "Those were neither mine nor Rhaenyra's orders."
He looked me in the eyes, trying to figure out if I was telling the truth.
"Why should I believe you?" He asked me after a couple of seconds in silence.
"Because you know me, Aegon." I said sadly. I grabbed his hand and placed it on my chest, above my breasts. "You know me." I repeated slowly.
He stared at me, and I could see his eyes becoming shinning. He was contemplating everything.
"You can stop this war, Aegon." I said softly.
That made him scoff as he pulled his hand away.
"Even if I wanted to, no one would listen to me." He said sadly as he looked down. "They pay more attention to what everyone else has to say. Mother, Aemond, Cole... but not me."
"Are you not their supposed King?" I asked confused, which only made him laugh.
"Sure looks like it, doesn't it?" He said with a hint of sarcasm. "They do not care about what I have to say."
