I woke up by hearing Dakota growl in my room.

"It's me, Dakota. It's me." I heard Daemon whisper.

I stretched as I sat up.

"Daemon?" I asked in the same tone.

"Hi." He said as he walked towards me.

He carefully sat down on the bed, trying not to wake the children. Daemon then grabbed my hands and gave me a slightly panicked look.

"We need to talk."

I looked at him confused, but nodded.

"Alex, Ed. Wake up, boys." I said softly as I shook my boys.

They simply groaned, making Daemon grow impatient.

"I believe your mother told you to wake up." He told them.

"Daemon?!" Both my boys sat up as they heard their stepfather's voice.

"Yes, it's me." He said smiling at them. "Now, your mother and I need to leave so we can discuss grownup matters."

"Always the same." Alex said rolling his eyes.

"What's new?" Ed asked in the same tone as his brother.

"I'm sorry, children." I said amused at their tones. "I will make it up to you."

"Sure." Alex said as he got up and walked towards the door.

"Whatever." Ed said as he copied his brother.

Once they left the room, the air became heavy.

I looked at Daemon with a stern face as he looked at me, panic still visible.

"I think I screwed up." He admitted.

"Daemon... what exactly did you do?" I asked him, slightly afraid of his answer.

Daemon took a deep breath and looked up at me.

"You know how Baelon and I went to King's Landing with Mysaria's connections to kill Aemond, right?" He asked me.

"Yes...?" I asked, afraid of where this was going.

"Well..." He hesitated. "Turns out that they didn't find Aemond, so they ended up... cutting Jaeherys's head off."

I looked at him wide eyed.

I stayed petrified before a wave of anger hit me as I got out of bed.

"Jaeherys?! As in Helaena's baby Jaeherys?!" I asked angrily.

"Listen, love, it-it was a mistake-"

"A mistake we cannot afford, Daemon!" I said as I rose my tone. "I knew I should've gone with you. I knew it."

"The same thing would've happened with you-"

"No." I said sternly. "The same thing would not have happened to me, because unlike you and Baelon, I am not careless. I would've given the right orders."

That made Daemon scoff.

"Like?"

"Like, if you do not find Aemond Targaryen in the Red Keep either wait for his return or leave, but do not kill anyone else!" I exclaimed. "Come on, Daemon! Is this who we are now? We kill innocents?!"

"That is not what I wanted! It was a mistake!" He yelled.

"A mistake that is enough to cost Rhaenyra her throne!" I yelled back.

Daemon and I stared at each other, both of us standing up on the opposite sides of our bed.

"I tried to have Aemond killed, like she wanted. Like you wanted. I was nothing but loyal to my Queen or to my wife. A mistake was made, but it was with good intentions." He told me after a few seconds of silence.
