"I hate you," Lia said, for I don't know how many times already since we left the café where we met Sophie. She said she hates me for keeping Grant from her. I mean, how could I tell her that her celebrity crush was my fiancé, right? Also, I don't really have any plan of going through the wedding so, why the need to tell her about it?
I sighed. "I have reasons why I didn't tell you about it, Li." I said.
"What were your reasons then? Tell me," she said, arms crossed to her chest and she kept on rolling her eyes towards me.
"You have a crush on him. And you know how much I dislike that part of my life," I reasoned. There are more actually that I rather not say. I was never proud of it—me being engaged to Grant—that, if even a chance I would really crawl my way out of this like what I was always telling her. So, telling it to anyone—to her perhaps would be nonsense. I mean, I hate it so much to even talk about it.
Hell, it would be embarrassing!
"So, what if I have a crush on him? Damn it, Abrielle. I am your best friend! You should have told me about it like a decent best friend should," she said. In her mind, I betrayed her. She'd like to believe it was a betrayal until she calms down and realizes the situation. I know her. I know she's just overreacting because it was a shock to her. "I would have volunteered to do that job if you only told me it was Alexus you are bound to marry," she said later on.
And I can't help but chuckle from it. She was really pissed that I had to hire Sophie instead of him. I shook my head. That can't be. I will not put her in that kind of situation. Also, like I said earlier, Grant knows her. He damn knows everyone around me.
What a freak.
"I told you, you can't. He knows you. He knew you're my best friend so, if I asked you to go to him and seduce him—no offense meant—he'd just probably laugh at us. He'd immediately realize that we are planning that," I told her the truth. That made her silent for a while until she started speaking again.
"So, you were the girl he was talking about in his interview," she commented. We are already in the elevator to my condo unit but she hasn't moved on from this topic.
"I don't think so," I answered, pushing the button on my unit's floor.
I saw how she rolled her eyes from her reflection on the elevator's door. "That was you for sure. You're his fiancé, who else do you think he was referring to?"
"Well, do not forget that we were just put in this situation. We're both expected to fulfill someone else's promise," I replied, rolling my eyes too.
Lia nodded. "But you also cannot be sure that he was agreeing to the arrangement just because he wanted the inheritance. Malay mo, mahal ka pala niya talaga," she said and almost choked on my own saliva.
"Jesus, Liandra! I have known him since childhood. I know him so well to know that I am not his type. I am way far from his ideal girl," I said, disgusted by the thought.
Ugh! I can't even think.
"Still, we can't be sure... Nah-uh," she said, shaking her head. "Has he ever told you the reason why he's agreeing to the arrangement? Or did he ever tell you that he didn't like you for him to go against it?" She asked but I remained mum to it because he didn't. He never said any reason why he's letting our family dictate our lives. "Well, I guess he didn't. You just assumed that it was only about the money. His multi-billion inheritance."
"Because that's the truth. What else would be the reason?" I insisted.
"Or maybe, because of love. Let me tell you this, my dear best friend. Alexus has been in the show business for five years already. And within those five years, he has not been seen with anyone out for a date—not even once. He didn't even want to talk about his personal life," she added. "Well, come to think of it. He never spoke about his personal life before, especially that part—the love life part. And every time people would assume that he's dating someone, he would immediately deny it. He'd clarify that he's not dating anyone until his confession the other night. That was the first time he ever answered a question regarding his love life!"
