Once again, I rejected his invitation. It has been like that since our family announced our engagement; I never accepted anything that he offers since then. And I always succeeded in doing that to him, turning him down without hesitation, but it was different when it was my mother who asked me to come home for a dinner—a dinner with his family.

I sighed as I pulled over in front of our front porch. I knew everyone was already home with all the cars parked in front our house, leaving me with the space near the porch.

"Oh, Lord. Please guide me," I prayed before pushing my car's door open and hopping out of my car.

I knew what might happen tonight and I swear, I'm not sure if I can still hold my tongue if things escalate.

I was already near the steps to our porch when I stopped walking, seeing who's standing in front of me, leaning on our door's frame.

"You came," he casually said, smirking.

I rolled my eyes and continued walking. "As if I have a choice," I answered, walking past him.

"You always have a choice, Bree," Lucas, Grant's cousin, said, stopping me mid-way.

I arched my brow. "And it is giving in and letting them dictate my life? Is that it?" I said, sounding like a mock.

Lucas shrugged. "Then, why are you letting them do things like this? Setting up dinners and probably talking about the wedding?" He fired back.

I faced him and said, "And why are you so pressed about it? As far as I am concerned, you are out of this matter. So, why are you trying to stick your nose in it?"

He shrugged. "Is it bad to show some concern to a friend?"

I rolled my eyes. "Last time I checked; we are not friends. You're just someone who always tries to involve himself into something you are not included in."

I knew him well. I knew how he once asked his grandfather to be in Grant's place. He asked them. He pleaded to be in his place as my fiancé so he could be the sole heir. But they didn't allow him, for what reason, that I didn't bother to know.

I will not tell him I knew what he did. Hell, I will tell them I knew what they planned. After all, I knew their only concern was about the inheritance, which I honestly don't a single fuck.

"What?" He asked, brow arched and teeth gritting.

I think I just hit a nerve.

I stepped back, ready to leave. "Stay fucking out of this, Lucas. That's what I said," I said. I turned my back and started leaving but he held my elbow, stopping me from moving. I slapped his hand away. "What the hell?!"

"Ang yabang mo ah? Ano bang pinag mamalaki mo, ha?" he said, clenching his jaw. He caught my elbow again and held it tight.

I shook his hand again, trying to slap it away but his hold got tighter the more I tried to remove it. "What the hell, Lucas! Let go of me! Nasasaktan ako!"

"Masasaktan ka talaga kung hindi mo iaayos ang pananalita mo," he said. "Ang yabang-yabang mo. Bakit, anong pinag mamalaki mo? Sinong pinag yayabang mo? Si Grant? Dahil siya ang taga pag mana?" he added.

"Fuck you!"

He hissed. "I can take it away, Bree. Everything he has now, I can take it all away in one snap," he told me, stepping closer to me, leaning his face to mine. He leaned more, close enough for him to reach my face when he suddenly jerked away from me and fell on the ground.

A warm hand pulled me and I was suddenly facing someone's back. He wasn't facing me but I can see how heavy his breathing is and how his body shakes a little. His hands were on fists, showing his veins.
