Do you love me? ~ Johnny Cade x Reader

It was a late fall afternoon. A slight wind going outside, the temperature probably no more than 15° Celsius, the sun setting in red, orange and a bit of violet, behind dark grey clouds from the previous rainfall.

That afternoon, you were hanging out with Johnny at your house, not doing much, just talking and having a bit of fun. You ended up cuddling like this: On your bed, you on your back, Johnny's head on your chest, and one of his legs thrown over yours, your arms around his slim upper body. It's his favourite and most comfy position, same for you.

You've had your eyes closed, relaxing, when Johnny shifted a bit, leaning onto his elbow, looking up at you. Opening your eyes, you just admired his soft brown eyes.

,,Y/N, can I ask you something?"

,,Sure, what's up, Johnnycakes?"

,,Do you love me?"

,,Huh?"

That was the first thing that came to your mind. You were taken aback by his question, thinking about it for a second, deciding to ask him further.

,,Of course I love you! What makes you think I don't?"

,,Well, I mean...There's...I've noticed..."

Johnny stopped and took a deep breath. Was it something really bad? You hoped not, and waited for him to continue.

,,You know, the past few times we hung out and cuddled and stuff, I...I felt, as if you weren't there, like...I don't wanna sound mean, but even a rock would give more love than you..."

He looked away, out the window. He knew it was a harsh comment, but he couldn't describe it else. The comment did hurt you a bit, but then you thought back, until you got the solution.

,,Hey, Johnnycakes?"

,,Yeah?"

He looked back at you, and you gave him a small smile, animating him to smile, too.

,,I'm sorry I made you feel this way...You know how there's been so much going on, at school and here, at home? I tried to juggle that, but it got a bit confusing. And then there's the thing with me zoning out so much, much more than usual, and which I don't even remember no more, only, when somebody tells me. But, you know..."

You still gave him a smile, just a bit faint, as you tried to explain it more. Your parents and you have been preparing for weeks now, for some family members, some aunts, uncles, cousins and your grandparents, to visit for a week, and at the same time, there were a bunch of tests at school in a row, and studying for them was hard enough.

,,I get it!"

,,You do?"

,,Yeah...As long as we can cuddle double the time now!"

Both of you laugh, and you hugged him, kinda pulling him in, so that he's now lying on you.

,,Thanks for understanding, Johnnycakes."

,,Always."

,,You know...Can I tell you something?"

,,Hm?"

You ruffled his hair, earning a chuckle from him.

,,I always loved you.  The first time I've got to know you, I knew, I was in love with you. And I made a promise to myself, to never stop loving you!"

Johnny looked at you, and gave you a tender kiss.

,,That's funny...I thought the same to myself, too! I'm glad we're together, Y/N." :)
