33. Coward

Jungkook was laying his head on the table when he heard footsteps towards him. He didn't dare to lift his head as he was miserably crying.

"Jungkook?" Jimin called in. Soft voice. Jungkook just hummed.

"I know you know the truth...." he said trying hard not to cry again. The younger just nodded for this too breaking Jimin's heart.

"Then I'll go now," the elder said going to the front door. But he turned back to look at Jungkook still laying his head on the table.

"Do you want this baby?" Jimin asked one last time as Jungkook had equal rights to the baby. He hoped or prayed to god that Jungkook should not shake his head but his heart again shattered when the racer just shook his head without even looking up at him. Jimin closed his mouth before sobs can come out and ran outside and closed the door. He slid onto the door, now sobbing freely to his heart's content.

"I'm sorry...I'm sorry, baby" he mumbled caressing his flat stomach. He could not understand how people can just abort. Maybe it was because this was his first time.

Several years before:

"What should we do, honey?" Jihun asked hugging his husband tighter. Daehyun just caressed his back comforting him.

"Why it has to be us?" Daehyun heard his husband sob on his chest wetting his uniform. Man Beok had just appeared before them to remind them of the past.

"We will be okay, my love. Don't cry" he said in a soft tone but Jihun just shook his head.

"Why is this destiny so harsh? How can I kill my baby just to save myself?" the smaller was a sobbing mess. He just could not accept that.

"Love?" Daehyun called him and he looked up at him. The police officer gently wiped his tears and placed a chaste kiss on his lips and pulled away.

"No matter what, I'll save both you and our baby," he said looking at his pregnant husband who felt butterflies in his stomach hearing those words. Jihun knew they can't defy destiny but he at least wanted to save his unborn baby.

Present:

Jungkook gasped and woke up when those memories played in his mind. He panted heavily and wiped his sweaty face. He recalled the memories and banged his fist on the table continuously.

"I'm such a coward...." Fresh tears rolled down in the white tracks of already dried tears. He only realized how much of a coward he was, when he saw Daehyun. Daehyun and Jungkook were both in the same boat. But the former was a bit braver but the latter was a bit smarter.

"What the fuck did I just do?" Jungkook clutched his hair in frustration.

"Am I really him? But he is not a coward like me....." he whimpered. He suddenly opened his eyes.

"No...I can't do this" he could not think straight as the guilt had taken the best of him.

"No matter what, I'll have to save both you and our baby, Jimin," he said determined with guilty years flowing through his eyes. Will he be able to oppose destiny?

Without thinking about anything, he ran to his car and drove it to the hospital. As soon as he reached the hospital, he found Jimin sitting on one of the benches in front of the huge building. But he felt his heart bleeding when he saw how Jimin was sobbing clutching onto something without minding the weird gazes of people around.

"Shit...." Jungkook cussed and strolled to his boyfriend who was hearing something in his AirPods.

"Hyung" he called the older loudly who looked up at him with a red face and crystal tears stagnant in his eyes. Jimin's lips were red because of continuous biting.

"I'm too late...." Jungkook whispered feeling pathetic as he could not come in time.

"AHH....." he shouted in anger at himself. People weirdly looked at him but he didn't care. He kneeled beside Jimin's legs and took one of the elder's hands into his.

"I'm sorry" he mumbled taking Jimin's wet hands to his mouth and kissing it. But Jimin withdrew his hand away and the younger closed his eyes tightly at the rejection.

"I deserve it," he said. An unfamiliar pain twisted in his stomach. He knew it was guilt and anger eating him up.

"I'm such a coward...." he let out, voice hoarse. Jimin who was silent all the while took a file in his hands and gave it to Jungkook. The latter opened it only to see the ultrasound picture of their baby which no longer existed. A fresh set of tears poured out of his eyes and he clenched his jaw.

"H-hyung" he looked at Jimin who was silently looking at him. The foetus so was tiny that it hurt Jungkook even more.

Jimin took his AirPods and placed them in Jungkook's ears. The world went silent for Jungkook except for the heartbeats of the foetus. But he heard two. The beats made him silent and he even forgot to breathe. He now knew why Jimin was sobbing that bad. Jungkook was miserable that he was the reason that these heart beats stopped. Jimin pressed his lips together looking at the younger.

"I-i... " words got stuck in Jungkook's throat as he buried his head in Jimin's lap crying out loud. The older couldn't see him like this and silghtly caressed his hair.

"I tried so hard to abort them but I couldn't. I'm sorry" he mumbled weakly. Jungkook's head swung up to meet his eyes in surprise.

"Hyung, really? Them? " he asked now with stars in his eyes as Jimin nodded with his head hung low. Suddenly Jimin was engulfed in a bone crushing hug as he gasped.

"Thank you, hyung. Thank you so much. And I'm really sorry for being a coward" Jungkook rambled on shakily. Jimin pulled away and cupped his cheeks with his tiny hands.

"Calm down," he said delicately and caressed his face and Jungkook did calm down in his touch.

"I know we are still young but I'll try hard for you three, hyung. Please give me a chance. I'll protect you and our babies" Jungkook said placing his hands over Jimin's which were cupping his face.

"Are you sure? What if you regret it later? You have a bright future ahead, Jungkook. How can I spoil that?" Jimin asked.

"Hyung, if it's you I won't regret anything. If you are in it, my future will be bright" he said making Jimin shed emotional tears.

"Are you willing to risk everything for me?" Jimin asked averting his tears gaze. Jungkook cupped his face now and turned him back to look at him.

"Only for you," he said with sincere eyes which Jimin couldn't deny. Jungkook closed his eyes smiling when Jimin leaned down to kiss his lips.
