Nova sat at her desk in her bedroom at Tonks's parents' house. Tonks's father had been gone for some time now, on the run and hopefully alive. Hence, the house was usually quiet with only Nova and Tonks's mother residing in it. Tonks and Remus came often, updating Nova of what was happening outside of this house. They advised her not to leave, however Nova started taking walks around the neighborhood, eager for a bit of freedom.
She looked at herself in the mirror and noticed how pale her skin was from lack of sunlight. She grabbed the letter she had been fumbling with and got up to sit herself by the fireplace for warmth. She opened the letter.
Nova,
It is good to hear from you. I'm sorry you are feeling restless. I understand it must be difficult to have to remain in one place. I know you are desperate to feel useful, but staying safe takes priority. Do not jeopardize yourself for a moment of freedom - it is not worth it. It continues to be dangerous for you. He is still looking for you, trying to find you.
You ask about me and how I am but please do not. I am fine and protected for the time being. I look forward to your letters - they are the only thing that seems to bring me joy in these dark times. I do not know to outcome of what will transpire next, nor do I think I could guess it. As you know, Harry Potter is still missing and He is growing impatient. He will stop at nothing to find him. I try to stay out of the way and do what I can for the students. They are my priority now.
As for your question regarding telling the members about me - please do not. They will not trust me, nor do I suspect that you trust me. I know you continue to ask me about that night, however I cannot explain it to you. If you are going to listen to me about anything, let it be this: it is safer and wiser the less you know about that night. I know this isn't what you wish to hear, but it is true.
You've asked about Lucius - don't. He does not deserve your consideration. I refuse to acknowledge him in these letters, let them be sacred, free from the negativity of him. I do not mean to shame you, however I need you to forget him. He no longer matters in any of this. If you reach out to him, you risk many things. Please, do not try to contact him or anybody else. These letters are already a danger to you. Unfortunately, I cannot bring myself to stop writing you.
Nova, there is much I wish to tell you. However, it is not safe to do so. I understand you would like to meet, but I do not think we should risk it. I could not live with myself if I put you in harm's way. I know this isn't what you want to hear and for that, I am sorry. This is simply how things have to be for now. I hope that one day, it'll be safe enough for us to meet. I wait patiently and eagerly for that day.
I imagine you rolling your eyes at this letter, frustrated in the lack of answers I provided. But do not cease writing to me. I look forward to hearing from you. Rest assured that when the time is right, I will come for you and I will explain everything.Yours truly,
-S.S.Nova gazed at the letter, a smile playing on her lips. A tear fell down her cheek, a mix of happiness and grief swelling inside of her. She dropped the letter into the crackling fire, watching the flames burn the edges, making their way to the middle of the parchment, until all that remained was ash.
Her bedroom door flew open and Remus came in, looking fearful and excited. Sweat beaded down his forehead, he was panting as if he ran here. Nova stood, bracing herself for news.
"It's time," he said in one quick breath. "Tonks went into labour."
Nova let out a laugh, relieved. She followed the nervous-looking Remus out of the room.
