The Walking Dead
Dante x Gender Neutral!Reader
Word Count: 300His ambiguous tone made me falter. But, nonetheless, I ignored it. Love is blind, after all.
The way he carries himself, his smile, his personality, all the way down to how he pronounces his words. How his lips form around the words as they spill from his mouth. They flutter around the helix of my ear, to the concha, turning my brain to mush. And all that's left is his bewitching grin. Oh, and how he says such words. He could smooth talk anyone into doing anything for him. How he calls me by my name so softly. He could persuade me into jumping off a cliff if he felt as such.
It was hard not to fall for the way he does... everything. Watching him go to work is like watching God create the world. Such dexterity makes me want to feign injury just so I can have those nimble fingers on me.
He's started to look at me differently, I noticed. His gaze felt more warm than usual. He stood closer to me as he recited his tales of being on the road before he got to Alexandria. The lingering touches when he placed his hand on my back or my upper arm. I was elated (as to be expected) but I never acknowledged why until I laid in my bed one night as I tried to put it all together.
The night I realized why, the sky was a backlit canopy with holes punched through it. There were twice as many stars that night. The crickets' and frogs' ballad served as ambient music as he stood next me, watching Venus from afar.
"Dante?"
"Yeah?"
"You're in love with me, aren't you?"
I watched his face as I waited for an answer. A smirk appeared upon it.
"Yeah."
