"I choose to have you by my side."
~*~
You look for words you remembered in the corners and sure enough you could not find them any more. And now a few words appeared differently with some of the characters on both sides of edges. You know for sure that before none of the words continued onto the next wall. The walls are certainly closing in on you, just as you had informed Sinbad.
"So?" Sinbad asks flatly.
"So?! So we're going to be squashed like jam in here!"
"Just agree this djinn is mine and we'll be out of here before that happens."
You scoff, "No way! Why should you get this one?"
Keeping an eye on a corner, you see it fold into itself as you speak. Pausing in the silence, the movement resumes again as Sinbad speaks.
"Why? Because I want it more!"
"What kind of entitled reasoning is that?!"
Another column of words disappear as the walls close in.
"I've had nothing and worked for everything I gained," he insists.
You shout, "I've worked hard for you too! I'm helping you gain your idealistic world with no injustices! But even in your perfect world I'm only a second class citizen! Just a pawn; a means for you to gain a country; your backup plan when Parthevia didn't fall through."
"That's not true! Even without Balbadd's help, we would find another way."
"So you're saying you don't need me at all?! Fine! Good luck getting out of here on your own then!"
There's not much room now but you turn your back on him and walk as far as the shrinking enclosure will allow. Thankfully it seems as though the ceiling has stopped lowering. You huff and try to hold back tears, especially when you feel his hand on your shoulder.
Calmly he soothes, "(y/n). It's not that I don't need you. I mean to say I choose to have you by my side."
Strange. The walls did not move just now. Your hand reaches out to verify the distance remains constant.
He urges, "Please, (y/n), what is all this about?"
The walls did indeed stay still through that. You inhale deeply, trying to collect your thoughts. He was trying to be genial about it. How could you respond in kind?
You pout, "Marrying someone I've fallen in love with, it's more than I ever hoped for growing up. But sometimes it feels that the affection only goes one way."
"What are you talking about, (y/n)? Together we defied fate and that has bound us together."
On the verge of bawling, you plead, "Then please don't treat me like I don't have feelings. Don't invalidate concerns I may have. And don't try to manipulate me into something I don't want." The wall moves again as your voice raises. You take a breath and humbly continue, "I suppose our marriage will proceed regardless. But Sin, I want to continue loving you in our marriage. Respect goes both ways. And if you don't care about my feelings, then I'll end up quite miserable in this situation."
Thankfully, the walls did not move during your entreaty.
"(y/n). You know I do what I do for the sake of the world."
"We are where we are now because we worked together. If your way gets people hurt like in Zagan's dungeon, then let's find the best way together like we have before; like when we saved Tison."
"No one was going to get hurt in Zagan's dungeon."
"You ordered me to kiss someone else!" you point out accusingly.
