The day was dreary. A melancholic sort of fog had come to settle over the academy's grounds, tinting everything with a grey hue that inspired nothing but lethargy. Rain clouds loomed overhead, holding within their dark wisps the promise of a stormy evening.

Just the same as the students were miserable and affected by it all, so too were the faculty. That shared trait meant the day would be a lazy one, given that no one had it in themselves to offer much more than the bare minimum. Work would still be assigned, of course, and deadlines were still in place, but the insipidity of the outside world had already seeped in and begun to take over.

With everyone at its mercy, they did their best to just push through it.

And you, sipping on your third energy potion of the day and hiding away in the back of the library, were making some progress on that mission.

A hefty textbook laid open beside your notebook on the table in front of you, full of sketches and drawings to accompany the paragraphs of mind-numbing information in between. It was for your anatomy class, and you were studying for the exam you had coming up next week.

To the left of you, windows arched high into the air, soaring until they reached the roof. A mural sprawled its way across the ceiling, picking up where the windows left off and stretching to the other sides of the room. It depicted a beautiful night sky, full of lone stars, constellations, and other celestial bodies. Paired with the wooden interior of the room - a rich brown that exuded pristine excellence - it looked wonderful.

Only once you came to that conclusion did you realize that your eyes had drifted away from your book again.

You rubbed them, hoping to ease the ache they felt and gear yourself up for another hour or two of study. The words in front of you had begun to blur together, though, and you knew you needed to take a break if you hoped to actually retain any information at all.

The chair beneath you made a hushed squeak as you stood up and pushed it in. You didn't bother to pack your things up before leaving; you were coming back soon, after all, and it was incredibly unlikely that anyone would want to steal any of it. If the worn pages and poorly done annotations enticed them that much, then more power to them.
