"Astrid!" Esther cried. She was contemplating how to get out of here when she saw Astrid drop down from the ceiling with an excruciating thump.
Esther reached an arm out to her friend from the other side of the bars, desperately thrashing it around to wake her friend.
"Ugghhh," Astrid got up, a guttural groan escaping from her lips.
"You're okay," Esther sighed with a breath of relief.
Esther noticed the slight twitch of Astrid's body as she got up, limping towards her cell. She wanted to tell Astrid to rest, but after that loud crash, guards would be back to investigate, and staying here would be dangerous.
When Astrid reached her cell, she desperately tried to pry the bars off, before reaching back into her sac to grab a pair of pliers. She gripped the handles and twisted, the hardened steel teeth tightly gripping the iron bars that kept Esther imprisoned. With a loud screech, the metal bars deformed, creating a small enough opening for Esther to slip through.
"Thank you," Esther said, a small grin on the side of her face.
"No problem," Astrid replied, "But we better get moving. The guards probably heard us."
But before they left the dungeon, Esther took one last look at the cells. She noticed the all the prisoners standing there looking to them, with just a blank stare on their faces.
She waved to them as she exited the same way she came through, climbing up after Astrid.
