Astrid leaned on Esther, the two of them proceeding towards the vault where the treasure they wanted to obtain, the diamond, was stored.
The limping girl winced as weight was put on her injured leg, holding Esther's shoulders for a bit of support. As they entered the antechamber to the vault,
The ghostly glow of torches flickered up and down the antechamber. A silhouette of a guard crawled up and down the walls as he patrolled the area in front of the vault. Esther and Astrid halted, intently watching as they waited for the guard to pass. Finally, the guard's shadow passed, and the pair continued forward.
Astrid and Esther slowly passed in front of the vault. It was a huge, sprawling wall, iron bars and steel plates overlapping onto each other, creating a neigh-impenetrable barrier. It stretched almost to the ceiling, gleaming metal barriers creating an impassable wall. At least, not by normal means.
Esther motioned to Astrid, who reached inside her bag. She drew a chisel-like tool, forked at the end, designed to pry open nails and bolts. Quickly, she set to work on the vault, sliding the tool in between the edges of two large metal plates, seeking to create an opening.
"Hello there. How exciting."
Astrid whirled around. Behind them was a guard, clad in metal plate and greaves, holding a sword to the ground in a drawn position.
Sir Lawrence, the captain of the guard, walked slowly toward the two bandits.
Astrid reached for her two curved blades, covered by her cloak.
Astrid knew he recognized Esther, as she was the one arrested earlier in the evening for questioning.
As he walked toward them, Astrid leaped at him.
