As Owen and Teddy were gladly hired by Meredith,they both walked out of the Chief's office and made their way to the attendings lounge to greet their other colleagues, they haven't seen each other for a good long time and who knows how've all they been, with the new program and new how's Meredith as Chief.
Meredith let herself lean against her chief's chair again, taking deep breaths before she started writing down on her Parkinson's research.
Soon someone's knocking on her door, expecting it to be Nick again she quickly responds to the person to come in.
"What the hell was that!" she looked up as she heard Maggie demanding about something she has no idea about, closing the door behind her.
"What?" she was confused, looking at her with a confused frown on her face.
"Triple organ transplant? really? that's what you asked him after seeing him for the first time in six months?" Maggie tried clarified, "You didn't even ask how he has been"
"There were a lot of people in that hallway, you really want me,the chief, to talk to a transplant surgeon about our personal relationship?" Meredith tried to make it sound like a statement as possible.
"Well you have uhm a point but still...." Maggie damanded again as she sat down on the chair across from Meredith
Then they were silent again for a few more minutes until Amelia walked in.
"Hey, I heard someone reunited" Amelia immediately stated, an almost teasing grin already on her lips
Meredith gave Maggie a look, which Maggie already knows what that looks meant
"She's our sisters, she has to know" Maggie tried to defend herself.
"So,did you two talk or ...." Amelia let her words trailed off, sitting down next to Maggie
"They did..." Maggie answered for her as she was spinning her chair from left to right as if she was a child
"Really?!" It sounds like more of a statement with a little bit of shock as Amelia smiled at Meredith
"Triple organ transplant...." Maggie again cut in, making Meredith roll her eyes at her "That's what they talked about... the first thing she told him after a simple 'hi' "
"That's sounds stupid" Amelia stated, slightly confused
"What I'm saying...." Maggie added
"Okay,stop you two..." This time Meredith spoke, trying to defend herself from her sister who's cornering her "It's not as easy as it sounds..." she added more softly, looking down at her desk when a pile of paperwork for her Parkinson's research.
"How?" Amelia asked
"We spoke okay...but not about us..." Meredith gave in, taking a deep breath before she continued "he told me he heard me when I called after him in the hallway"
"If he heard you then why didn't he turned around or even bother even looking back" Maggie asked, clearly wanting to know everything
"He wanted me to put on some effort...he didn't just want me to call his name..." Meredith let her words trailed off, feeling the urge to cry,let herself breakdown, the past six months without Nick overwhelmed her. "I think he wanted me to run after him..."
"Why didn't you?" This time Amelia asked her
"A part of me wanted to run after him that time.... but I didn't... because the thought of me running after another
guy... the thought of me begging him to not leave me..." she looked up at her sisters,her eyes watery "it just hurts me and bring back a lot of memories... I've never thought about begging a guy for love or attention... my whole life I never wanted that nor could I imagine myself in that picture"
"Like what you did with Derek?" Amelia asked, gently knowing how much Meredith loved her brother
"It's different..." Meredith answered shortly "Derek was different..."
"How is Derek and Nick different when they had the same affection towards you..." Amelia chuckle slightly in disbelief,but can't hide the smile on he lips
"I always said that Derek was the love of my life...and I never imagined myself being in a relationship with a man that's not Derek...I was scared to love again" Meredith took a deep breath fidgeting with the pen in her hand
"Then what changed? what makes you less scared to fall in love again" Maggie asked
"Andrew" Meredith answered shortly, smiling sadly at the thought of her memories with him "he made me feel something that's different from what I felt with Derek... which makes my relationship with him totally different from Derek...and Nick...he was there when I needed him,he helped me through my crisis... though I feel like he loved me more that I ever loved him" she added, feeling slightly guilty with her words
"Why?" Maggie asked "We we a thing but we never get to the stage of I love you, or meet my kids stage"
"Because you don't have kids" Amelia but in sarcastically making Maggie roll her eyes at her
"He was willing to sacrifice his career for me and that..." she let out a deep breath, before she continued "I could never do that for him..." she added
"And Nick?" Amelia continued
"He's someone I can't survive without" Meredith admitted "He's someone I don't ever want to let go"
"So, you want him back?" Amelia asked
"I offered him a job as the residency director" Meredith answered,as she continued writing down on her paperworks
"Did he accept it?" Maggie cheered, excitedly
"He said he'll think about it" Meredith answered shortly
"Amelia why are you looking at Meredith like that?" Maggie asked
"What?" Meredith asked as she looked at Amelia who's already eyeing her skeptically "Is that a bad offer? Don't worry I'll pay him as much as I'm paying the both of you" she chuckled, looking back down at her paperworks
"You need a residency director or you want him close?" Amelia blurted out, raising an eyebrows as Meredith's smile faded slightly, stopping at her writing
Was that really the reason why she offered him? Or does she just really need a residency director?
