"But I know I love you...so if that's what you need to hear... I'll say it as many times as you need to hear" a smile smile appeared on Meredith's lips, overwhelmed with her own words, Nicks just looked down at the floor shyly, trying to hide his now red crimson face to Meredith.
He looked back up, seeing that she was still looking at him,and a small smile was still attached on her lips, a sparkle in her emerald green eyes that he hadn't seen in six months. A small shy slime creeping on his own lips.
"Can I... take you to dinner?" he asked shyly, taking a closer step towards her table "Let me take you to dinner" he asked again, hoping she'd say yes since he, himself had been waiting for this moment for the past six months.
He knew how tragic Meredith's past was.She told him that, he knew she was hurt the time she pushed him away, which was six months ago.But he was hurt as well and he might have forgotten that.
"Just..." he took a deep breath, trying hide how nervous and hopeful he was for her to say yes "If not tonight...maybe some other time then?" he added, slightly shrugging his shoulder,as he tried to avoid her gaze, that's been looking at him since he came in few minutes ago "I just — want to...us... to – be okay" he added, again nervousness taking over his system.
"No" she answered shortly, making Nick looked up at her
"No?" he tried to make it sound as casual as possible, trying not to sound disappointed or somehow offended since she just confess her love for him a minute ago
"But..." she spoke again,as Nick look back at her "you can take me to Zola's presentation for the Pacific Northwest Scholar" she added,a smile were already creeping on her lips just looking at the man in front of her.
"I'm in" he nodded,in a more serious tone.
"Okay..." she nodded, still smiling as he turned around towards the door, a big smile kn his lips as he heard Meredith again sais "See you tonight" before he left the room, closing the door behind him.
Meredith had just tucked in Zola in bed after kissing her goodnight when she went back to the living room where her sisters were already sitting on the couch,a worried expression on their faces.
"How is she?" Maggie immediately asked as Meredith appeared in the living room while scratching her forehead tiredly
"She's finally asleep..." Meredith answered taking a deep breath as she sat down in the middle of her sisters.
"It's been an hour" Amelia said concerned about her neice
"She cried herself to sleep.." Meredith said again,as she leaned against the couch, letting her head rest on the back of the couch "she kept saying that I would forget about her and her siblings if I got alzheimers" she added,a few tears already leaving her eyes.
"She's a smart kid of course she'd say that" Amelia then stated, fidgeting with her fingers a sad smile on her lips
"What did Nick say?" Maggie asked
"He didn't ask anything because he knows I'm not ready to talk about it... but he did drove us home before he went back to his apartment" Meredith answered, sitting back up straight, wiping her tears away.
"Are you two okay?" Amelia then asked worriedly to her sisters "I mean— ... I had a tumor and you both were there for me so I just thought... I would do the same"
"I'm fine... thank you Amelia" Maggie answered, giving her sister a sad smile
"I will be when Zola is" Meredith answered shortly before they heard a knock on the door.
"I'll get it..." Amelia got up walking towards the door.
"Hey uh... is Meredith still awake? Just want to check in how she's doing" Nick said as Amelia opened the door.
"I'll get her" Amelia answered shortly, earning a thank you smile from Nick before she went back to the living room.
"Mer..." Amelia called softly as her sisters looked up at her "Nick wants to check in on you... he's at the door" she added.
Meredith nodded slightly before she stood up and walked to her porch, seeing Nick standing there admiring the quiet street.
She slowly walked behind him, before she called him out "Hey" she said softly, not sure if they're okay enough to hug him from behind nor even touch him
"Hey... just checking in How's Zola?" he immediately asked as he turned around
"She's finally asleep" she answered, smiling sadly at him at how worried he was about Zola "she cried for an hour straight and finally fell asleep"
"How are you?" he asked now, as she stood next to him looking at the dark street a few feet away from her porch.
"I'll be fine when Zola is" she breathed out
They stood there in silence feeling and enjoying each other's presence, trying to push aside the awkwardness between them since they first saw each other in the surgical corridor, neither of them were saying anything since they just literally talked, like 'talked talked' , for the first time in 6 months since Nick accepted the job as the new residency director.
Birds chirping, cold air ripping through their faces as Meredith was shivering slightly.
"I should go inside... it's uhm... it's getting late" she then spoke again, standing straight
"I'm sorry..." he said, nervousness already creeping in him,as he faced her "I shouldn't have walked out that way... I was hurt and I over reacted and didn't give you the benefit of the doubt and didn't have your back" he rambled,in one breath as his eyes met hers
"Nick I—" before she even says another word,he immediately interrupted her
"I was scared... and I still am" he admitted, looking directly into her eyes seeing tears were already welling up in them "It scares me to love you too much it might break me" he paused, trying to find his words "I'm scared because I might not give you the love you deserve from me... that you might love me more than I love you.... I've told you before I've done that very rarely in my life and you've had it more than once and you even married one" he let out a sad chuckle. "I'm saying...I love you too" he added, his face is now crimson red causing Meredith to smile at him as well.
