In another world, unlike the Galaxy we visited before, an entire town was getting ready for a celebration of their own.
In this land, called the Encanto, the land was ruled by the magical Madrigal Family. It all began about fifty-three years ago in a quaint little village, where lived a young couple, Alma and Pedro Madrigal. Once, they were very happy, and soon were blessed with triplets. But, their home was attacked shortly after the babies were born, and the Madrigals were forced to flee their home. Though many joined them, they could not escape the dangers that followed. And then, Pedro Madrigal sacrificed himself to save the lives of his family and their village.
Alma was absolutely crushed by the loss of her husband, and it seemed all hope was gone. But then, she was given a miracle through a beautiful golden candle that would never go out... or so she thought.
You see, after the family was given the miracle of a safe haven and their magical house called Casita, Alma's children received magical powers known as their 'Gifts' on their fifth birthday, and so did each of their children on their fifth birthdays... all except for one. Julieta, the oldest triplet, had three daughters, and the youngest daughter, Mirabel, was the only one who did not receive any magic.
Because Mirabel did not receive a gift, her grandmother Alma, as well as many in the entire Encanto, began to isolate Mirabel and treat her like she wasn't special. Mirabel worked really hard to prove she was still part of the family and didn't need a gift, but nothing was ever enough. What made things worse was when her Uncle Bruno, the youngest of Alma's triplets, had a terrible vision that she would either save or destroy the miracle.
It was only by support from her twin cousin Milagro, a.k.a. Mila, Bruno's oldest daughter, who refused to use her gift when she saw Mirabel didn't get one, that Mirabel was able to keep her head up. The miracle did end up breakinng, and it turned out that it was because Abuela Alma was so afraid to lose her miracle that she pushed everyone to believe they had to earn the miracle by serving their community, using their gifts to the point where it hurt them. But in the end, Mirabel ended up restoring their magic when she and Mila finally made amends with their grandmother.
Almost three years had gone by since the miracle was restored, and tonight was another gift ceremony. Tonight, there would be new gifts for not just one, but two Madrigal children. Bruno's twins, and Mila's little sister and brother, Rosella and Pedro Madrigal. And, tonight would also be Mirabel's first time hosting and presiding over the ceremony.
Sadly, the Madrigals were now missing and mourning one family member. Abuela passed away six months ago, and the Madrigals missed her terribly. It was really hard for the youngest twins, as they'd only gotten to know her for a very short time, and had barely any clear memories of her. It would be really hard for the rest of the family with this being the first Madrigal gift ceremony without her, but they knew she would have wanted them to go on with the tradition, and she gave her last words to both sets of twins in the Madrigal family.
"Gift or no gift, each of you is a miracle, and I couldn't be prouder of how you have all grown. I love you, mi vidas." Abuela said before she closed her eyes for the last time.
Rosella twirled in the beautiful white dress made for her, her mother Alicia trying to get her to stand still so she could tie the white ribbon around Rosella's low ponytail. Pedro, on the other hand, seemed nervous as Bruno helped him with his vest.
"What do you think my gift will be, Mami?" Rosella asked, jumping up and down in excitement when her mother finished her bow.
"Whatever gift you get, it will probably be something fitting with all that energy you have." Alicia chuckled, then she looked at the clock. "Speaking of which, it's almost time for the ceremony."
