Anakin soon went back to the Jedi Temple, where he sat with Master Yoda in his room, and explained his nightmares to him. His nightmares of Padme dying in childbirth, and his worry about it coming true the way it happened with his mother four years ago.

"Hmm. Most concerning, this is." Yoda said. "Had these dreams before have you?"

"Yes, Master." Anakin said. "And what was really odd was... Lamenta couldn't change them and neither could I. And they seem to come randomly. Sometimes at night, and sometimes when I just take a nap."

"Hmm. Concentrate you must. Afraid to let go, you are. However, sense a greater fear, I do."

Anakin looked down and closed his eyes. It was true. He was more afraid of how losing Padme would affect the rest of his family more than how it would affect him. Padme was Gabby and Boba's one and only mom. Gabby had known and loved Padme's adoring motherly love from the day she was born, whereas Boba grew up never knowing the beauty of a mother's love until Padme held him in her arms when she and Anakin adopted him.

"I know I've been troubled about letting go in the past." said Anakin. "and I know I'm not perfect. But Padme is the reason I kept my emotions in check in the first place. And then... our children. If anything happened to her... I don't know what I'd do. I don't know if I'd be able to raise three kids on my own, much less if the two older ones would be able to get by."

Normally, Obi-Wan wasn't one to eavesdrop, but he couldn't help listening in. He could sense the tears forming in Anakin's eyes as his sadness and fear filled the air. Now he was certain his honorary niece and goddaughter (as Anakin chose Obi-Wan as her godfather after the Code was changed) had rubbed off on him, as here he was now, standing by Master Yoda's door, listening in... until the door slid open, and he fell onto the floor.

"This... is not my room." Obi-Wan said awkwardly.

"Learned from the children to eavesdrop, you have?" Yoda chuckled, seeing Obi-Wan laying on his stomach.

"How much did you hear?" Anakin asked, wiping the tears from his cheeks.

"Everything." Obi-Wan looked at Yoda. "May I speak with my friend privately?"

Yoda nodded.

Obi-Wan took Anakin's hand and led him out to some place they could talk.

"I might not have children of my own or a wife as of yet." Obi-Wan said. "But I understand your fears, Anakin. I came close to losing the one I loved too many times to count. And some, I eventually did. I won't try to sugarcoat it... tragedy happens, and nothing can prepare you for it no matter how many times you face it."

"And this is supposed to make me feel better because...?" Anakin said.

"You aren't alone, Anakin. I worry about losing Satine every day. Now, even more. I know someday I will lose her to death, but living in fear is not the Jedi way or the right way. And Padme is a strong woman. Her will to live is as strong as your love for each other."

"And if she ends up dying anyway?"

"You won't be alone then either." Obi-Wan promised. "You have friends and family who will help you through it. Naturally, it will be hard for you and the children, but they need you now as much as we need you as well. This war is very nearly over. We just need to keep hoping."

"And find out who the Sith Lord is." Anakin finished.

Anakin thought about what Obi-Wan and his loved ones told him. He saw that they were right. The most important thing he could do now was be present for his family and be prepared for the best and worst. Padme would want him to focus on the positive and getting ready for the baby, and he had to stay strong for her, for their children, and for himself too.
