I was sitting at home waiting for Steve to come over since we were doing a simple pizza dinner date at my house since we both worked all day. I had set up plates, napkins and cups on the coffee table for whatever we wanted to drink since we were just going to sit on the couch and talked I figured we should be comfortable. There was a knock on the door and I smiled as I got up and answered it.
"Hey." I said seeing Steve standing there holding pizza.
"Hey, sorry the pizza place took forever." Steve said.
"No big deal, honest. Before we get started what would you like to drink? I have wine, beer, sweet tea, water....-" I trailed off.
"A beer actually sounds great." Steve said as I headed into the kitchen, got his beer and a bottle of wine for me. Steve said and opened the pizza box. Steve put a couple pieces on my plate then on his.
"Thanks again for agreeing to do this here, I know it's weird but I just don't want to take a chance on someone seeing us out and telling Nat or Bucky." I said and Steve gave a small laugh.
"No it's completely fine. I was going to honestly suggest something low key like this. I always feel like first dates are awkward at restaurants because you are nervous about what to actually order and then there is the awkward conversation. Then the other people being able to tell it's a first date and commenting to their table about how awkward it looks." Steve said and I laughed.
"Oh my god yes!" I exclaimed.
"This is so much better." Steve said and I smiled at him.
"So much." I said.
"So I meant to ask you were you at the banquet that night for Bucky?" I questioned.
"Yeah I was. I actually saw you there that night and was about to approach you when Sam left you alone but figured you two were already an item and didn't want to step in." Steve explained and I nodded.
"I would have preferred if you did. Honestly Sam was a nice guy but he left me alone for over an hour at the banquet." I said and Steve shook his head.
"It doesn't surprise me." Steve admitted.
"What is that supposed to mean?" I questioned.
"Well nothing about you or anything that was just Sam's way. He likes to string a girl along and then leave her alone for a while and make her guess what is going on. I had seen it before which is why I was surprised Bucky and Nat wanted to hook you two up." Steve explained and I nodded.
"Maybe they thought I could change him." I said as I poured myself a glass of wine.
"Yeah, Maybe." Steve said and we both laughed.

We had since finished the pizza and were now sitting out on my back patio enjoying the clear night and nice weather.
"I really enjoyed tonight." Steve said and I smiled at him.
"I did too." I said.
"Are we still keeping this from Nat and Bucky?" Steve asked.
"I would like to if that's okay. Just maybe for a couple more dates." I said and Steve nodded.
"Totally fine with me. Bucky thinks I need him to set me up with single girls all the time and it's like let me find my own dates." Steve said and I laughed.
"Same here. They were planning a dinner tonight for both of us to attend hoping to set us up." I said and Steve looked at me shocked.
"Seriously?" Steve asked and I nodded.
"Yep, she called me after you and I talked. That's why I asked if we could get together tonight just to make this go faster so they know we did it on our own terms." I explained and Steve nodded.
"Well good plan." Steve said and I smiled.

An hour later I was walking Steve to the door as he was getting ready to leave.
"Sorry I ruined your takeout and scary movie night tonight." Steve said, I just laughed.
"I don't think it was ruined at all, in fact the night went better than I ever imagined." I said and Steve smiled. He put his hand on the door handle and then turned back to me.
"Can we do this again?" Steve asked.
"Are you asking me on a second date?" I questioned with a smile.
"I believe I am." Steve said with a matching smile.
"I would love to." I said and Steve nodded, leaned in and kissed my cheek.
"Okay great, I'll call you." Steve said and opened the door.
"Sounds good." I said and he left. Once I door was shut I just smiled and sat on my couch. This was a good night and I was hoping Steve didn't have any tricks up his sleeve like Sam did.
