"You're not ignoring me again!" Xander caught Rose's arm.
Rose yanked her arm out of Xander's grip. "I'm not ignoring you."
Xander snorted. "Bullshit. You haven't let me into your room in a week. You quit half of your classes. You try to take round about ways to avoid me."
Rose glared at him. "I've gotta go. TA starts in five minutes."
"No. Rose, talk to me." He begged her.
"Fuck. Off." She spun around and began stalking towards.
He followed her. "You have three seconds to come on your own free will."
She ignored him and kept walking.
Xander narrowed his eyes. And then he quickly grabbed her from behind and lifted her up on his shoulder, holding her steady with his right hand and holding her wrists with her left. He started stomping off towards the dorms. How was he even strong enough to do this? She kicked his back with her boots and he grimaced, but didn't let her go.
She kicked him again, harder this time. "Let me down!"
He ignored her, continued on. Rose barely noticed as he continued past the girl's dormitory. When they passed under the doorway into the guy's she couldn't help but notice however. She frowned and landed another hard kick at the base of his back. Xander trooped on regardless, taking her up in the elevator and out onto the third floor.
He stopped in front of one of the doors, awkwardly trying to keep hold of Rose's wrists (as she tried to yank them out of his grip) and twist the door handle. He finally got a grip on the handle and pushed it open with his hip. Do guys even have hips? He did.
A slow, admiring whistle pierced Rose's ears and she looked up to see a group of boys, the same boys that she'd seen Xander with, gathered in the room. Xander groaned. "Guys, can you give us a minute?"
"Sure." One of the boys answered and they filed out although Rose saw a couple of them give Xander raised eyebrows and smirks. The last boy even went as far as wishing Xander "Good luck with her," with a wink.
Finally the door closed behind them. Xander put her down on one of the beds before leaning against the door. The room was basically like hers, different color sheets, more rugs, smelled like... boy, but same dorm room at the root of things.
"What the fuck, Xander!" Rose yelled.
"Talk. To. Me." Xander stressed.
"You literally picked me up and brought me to your room." She growled at him.
He exhaled loudly. "Well you won't talk to me."
"That doesn't mean you can freaking kidnap me!" She stood up and pushed past him out the door. "Now I'm late!" She exclaimed on her way out. Xander watched her leave, his face a mixture of frustration and worry.
Rose didn't go to class. That whole day. She knew her grades were dropping. One of her teachers had even stopped her to ask if she was okay. She didn't care.
She spent a lot of time in her room, programming. Hacking. She hacked into the bank and transferred some more money into her account. It's actually quite easy when you consider the way things were set up digitally now. She didn't even have to steal the money from somewhere else. It was just poof, now she had money. Of course, she had the dreams to credit for her hacking skill. No one in this time period could hack or code like she could.
And when she wasn't doing that, she was sleeping. She honestly wasn't sure which she was more scared of. The nightmare of her dreams or her reality. Despite where she went the feeling was always there, Wrapping around her like a noose.
But he was never there. Something had changed in the dreams. As if something had happened that the dreams skipped over. They never picked up where they left off and Rose was almost disappointed that she had woken up. While the prospect of seeing her Doctor (whether it be in dreams or reality) was terrifying, the idea of almost seeing him seemed almost worse.
But time passed. It was some week later when she forgot to lock her door after getting back from her nightly shower. Xander'd burst inside just as she was pulling out her computer to code a little personal project she had going.
"Rose-" He breathed out her name as he pushed his way through the door.
She glared at him. "Out."
"I won't even ask you questions. About anything." Xander crossed his heart. "Let's just go do something. You can't hide in here forever."
The startup sound of Rose's computer chimed between them.
"Please." He begged.
She pulled her computer closer and typed in the password, her fingers shaking, her shoulders tense.
"I won't ask you anything. It's not my business. Of course, you can always talk to me. You know, if you want to. Just don't lock me out. We can do anything. I swear, if you told me you wanted to go to New York City I think I would drive you there."
Rose bit her lip, her throat feeling tighter. She wanted to say something. Say anything. But she just couldn't.
"I'm sorry. Is that what you want? I'm sorry..." His brow was furrowed, his lips poised open and his eyes wide. Like a baby doll.
Rose pushed her computer back and pulled her knees up. "Please. Just go away. I can't do this."
"Rose." He took another step forward. "Let's just do something. Get some food. Go into town. Anything you want." Rose almost snorted at the last comment.
She didn't look up. She opened the program on her computer and bit the inside of her lip as her blonde hair fell out of her messy bun to shield her face. She heard his deliberating sigh and then retreating footsteps. The door shut with a final soft click of closure.
Rose leaned back. Her stomach twisting into a knot. She just didn't know what to do. She'd screwed up. She'd screwed up hard. She shouldn't have come here. She should have pushed him away sooner. She should have never let him get close.
Except maybe she wanted this. Maybe she missed this. Missed having someone who cared. Maybe maybe that's why when he so willingly gave himself to her, she'd taken him. And maybe why when her phone pinged she picked it up:
Let's take pictures of people's shoes :)
And maybe that's the reason she went downstairs to meet Xander.
