Ayaria looked down, away from the Doctor’s eyes. “I’m the Rose in the Tardis.”

The Rose in the Tardis. The words echoed through the Doctor sending jolts of electricity down his spine. His mind went wheeling. What exactly did that mean? There were still so many things left unexplained. So many questions. He felt a smile creep on to his lips. “It was an exchange… part of the Tardis in Rose and part of Rose in the Tardis.” He caught her eyes, “So you’re Rose! You remember-“

She cut him off with a shake of her head. “No, I can’t remember anything from my life as Rose. Lady’s told me about the Bad Wolf incident but I don’t know much more.”

“Oh.” The Doctor said trying not to sound too disappointed. He found himself studying her. The curve of her nose and lips, the strong line of her collarbone and her light hair bathed in the cool starlight. He realized with a bit of a start that this was the oldest he had seen her. Like the oldest ever, she looked about twenty four. “But you’re still over three hundred? And your age. How does that work?”

“See, Rose can’t support the Bad Wolf. Well, at least she couldn’t at the time. Her anatomy isn’t made to handle that kind of stress. But it’s a whole different story for the Tardis. Following?” She asked.

The Doctor smiled, his brain working furiously. “Yes, I think I am. The Tardis is infinite and can create things within it. So it was able to make you from the pieces it got from Rose…”

“Yes. Normally the Tardis wouldn’t be able to create life because it can’t create a soul or living conscious. But it got that from Rose and simply needed to make the body to support me. It used Rose’s DNA as well so I end up looking like her. But because Lady created me I can be any age allowed by the DNA set and I’m immortal because this body never has to die. Relatively simple from that angle.” She struggled to explain it.

“But how does all that affect the age your body is?” The Doctor said.

She shrugged. “It kinda just does it. Best I can figure out it just reflects how old I feel at the moment. How vulnerable, I suppose. That’s not always true though…” She said furrowing her brow.

The Doctor nodded regardless. “Okay, yeah. So you’ve honestly been here three hundred years? Ever since the day of the Bad Wolf?”

She nodded and took a sip out of the bottle. “Yep. Gets dreadfully lonely sometimes, but I’ve gotten pretty good at keeping busy.”

“You make it sound as if you’ve never left it?” The Doctor asked confused.

“That’s most likely because I haven’t.” She answered bluntly.

The Doctor’s brow furrowed. “But you’ve been here for three hundred years? Haven’t you ever popped out while I was gone?”

She shook her head. “Nah. What if you left without me? Or at least tried to. Course Lady wouldn’t leave but you’d see me coming in when you were knocking about the console trying to make her go.”

“Oh.” The Doctor said, beginning to feel a bit bad. “So what did you do to fill the time?”

“Random hobbies a lot of the time. Read a lot. Studied Gallifrey a ton. Learned how to shoot a bow pretty well. Gun too. I tried cooking for a while, but as much as I love Lady to bits, any ingredient or food in here just doesn’t taste right. Especially the milk. And then of course I got really good at programming, wiring and all that stuff.”

“You learned how to shoot a gun?” The Doctor asked a little dismayed.

She nodded slightly not meeting his eyes. “Well, Jack showed me and I kept practicing and I’m not a half bad shot now…” Her voice petered out,
