Song: Rebel Yell by Billy Idol

I practically want to scream like a little girl right now. I am over the moon as I turn my car keys and start the engine of my Camaro. I turn out of the side street and speed out to go home. Music blares from the car speakers and I tap my hand on the wheel to the beat of Rebel Yell. The smile on my face stretches from cheek to cheek.

Steve Harrington stopped being fucking selfish for once and came to the realization that Stacey has her own feelings. Her own thoughts. He said he would think on it and talk to her. So clearly, I'm taking that as a good sign. Hope rises up in me and I decide when I get home I will celebrate.

As I pull into my driveway and the song finishes, I walk inside. I hear Neil say some snarky comment to me but not even my asshole of a father can bring down my high. I ignore him and walk to my room, slamming the door behind me as I light a cigarette. I open up my underwear drawer and pull out the bottle of bourbon I had hidden in there and I open it up and the mixture of smoke and alcohol adds to my happiness.

I never thought I would ever feel this way about a girl. All of those meaningless hookups have never ended with me begging her brother to date her. Okay, begging isn't the word to use. I was, should I say, politely asking. I wouldn't beg to Harrington.

I down half the bottle and lay down onto my bed, taking a final, deep drag of my cigarette. I watch the smoke rise up as I blow it out. I push down the cigarette onto the ash tray on my nightstand and it goes out. I pull off my jeans and shirt before turning off my lamp and getting comfortable under the sheets of my bed.

A smile perks up on my lips and I fall asleep happy.

I take a deep breath before deciding I need to grow some balls and just talk to Steve already. I walk up to his door and knock before he calls out to let me in.

He is deep in thought, sitting on his bed as he plays with a small ball. He tosses it in between his hands and he looks up to me walking in.

"Hey Steve" I say with a smile.

"Do you like him?" He says and I stop in my tracks, a little shocked.

"Like who?" Stupid question to ask, but I need to make sure I'm not dreaming.

"Hargrove, do you like him?"

Okay, so I'm not dreaming. Technically I was supposed to start this conversation, but I guess Steve and I are thinking about the same thing, same person. I just dont know how.. or why.

I hold my head high, remembering why I came in here in the first place. "Yes but you said you didn't like him, Steve."

He sighs and looks down at the small basketball in his hands. "I know what I said, and I stand by it."

"Okay then why are you bringing this up?"

What am I doing?! I'm trying to get him to agree, not be mad!

"I just..." he starts but he seems to think of the right words to say. "I wanted to know if you care about him. Sincerely. Not for his dick or whatever shit you guys do that I don't want to know about. You sincerely like his unlikable personality." He looks at me as if he is studying my expressions and trying to read into my thoughts.

"Yes, I do" I say with a laugh at how he clearly does not want to be saying these words.

"Stacey" he says serious. He wants me to answer without any laughs or any jokes. "Do you really like him?"

"I really like him" I say seriously. "Even his unlikable personality." That earns a small laugh from Steve and he looks down to the ball.

"Okay" he says and although I'm a little confused, I'm taking that as a win.

"Okay?"

"Okay" he says as he looks at me and nods.

"I love you, Steve" I say as I smile and go back to the door.

"Love you, Stace" he says as I close the door behind me as I walk to my room.

A while later, Maxine comes barging into my room, waking me up from a very good dream.

"What?" I complain and I rub my eyes as the sudden light from the door comes pouring into my room.

"Steve Harrington is calling you" she says and I immediately shoot up, awake. "The phone is waiting for you. Also, put some clothes on" she says disgusted before slamming the door shut. I quickly dress again and go to the kitchen, where the phone awaits off the wall and on the counter. I walk over and pick it up.

"Hello?" I say.

"Yes."

That's the only words he says. We both know what he means and we don't need any explanation. The smile returns to my face but I hide my excitement.

"Thank you" I say.

I know, the words sound weird coming out of my mouth to me too.

I imagine him nodding. "Yeah, um, just treat her right or i'll kick your ass. Again." he says and I laugh.

"Right" I say before he hangs up, leaving me standing in the kitchen with a grin on my face.
