Honestly, Donghyuck had no idea how he got here, both mentally and physically. He was kind of kicking himself for not paying attention all this time. If he did they probably wouldn't be in this position.
All that really clicked in his mind right now was that he was dragged out of bed at ass o'clock in the morning by Renjun and there were maybe around 12 guns pointed at him right now.
Jaemin thrashed around slightly in the man's arms next to him, his screaming muffled as he kicked around to be let go. He was probably regretting not bringing Renjun through the last stages. Maybe though. Donghyuck just knows that Renjun disappeared a little while ago, possibly out of Jaemin's orders. Jeno was still mumbling on in his earpiece, telling them to wait just a few moments longer so he can solve some issue. Every now and then his voice would amplify as he spoke with either Chenle or Jisung on the phone. Everyone was on top of what they had to do.
It was only Donghyuck who let everyone down. Once again he was the reason they couldn't move on.
He shook in his spot, staring down the barrel of the gun while the owner twisted their lips into a wicked smile. "Shame you're a coward like your father."
"Indeed."To be entirely fair to himself he was in great amounts of pain and stress to actually pay attention to his life until it was in immediate danger. It was actually kind of alarming, but he didn't really want to go to a doctor in such trying times. He just hoped his pain tolerance could also deal with a gunshot wound as well as his ongoing chest pains.
But even if he wasn't he'd still hesitate, wouldn't he. Even if this was just a task he was supposed to carry out, an order in the future where he had to serve under some sycophant psychopath, he wouldn't be able to do it. He spoke big, but he'd still tremble in the face of fear.
He couldn't even avenge his own best friend.
He cried at the sight of the first blood stain, winced harshly after the first slash. He couldn't do this even when he wanted to. Not ever again.
"Your friend really died for nothing it seems."
As if Donghyuck didn't know that. He hung his head low, fingers gracing over the gun in his holder that he'd never be able to shoot even if he tried.
He heard a click come from the gun before him, the man snickering under his breath.
"And to think the aim was on you."
Donghyuck took a stuttered breath, shutting his eyes as tears spilled down.
"Shame our man looked at the wrong boy. But it did work. Your father paid back quite easily."
Maybe if he was prepared for this, which he really should've been, it would be easier to ignore his words. They wouldn't twist so deep within him, further than any knife, further than any bullet. Of course Mark was just collateral, he always knew that in the back of his mind. That it wasn't cause his family did something. It wasn't cause he did something. It was all just his fault.
Yet somehow it hurt to hear it out loud. His friend died at his expense. He had the opportunity to take Mark's place and he didn't.The man holding Jaemin yelped suddenly, Jaemin having bitten harshly on the man's hand. He screamed out for him, for him to do something, to take control.
And yet to no avail.
Donghyuck honestly was just waiting to die.
He couldn't move, he just shook helplessly in his spot, bracing like Mark had on that day with a lot less strength than he did. He tried to take out the gun again as he heaved heavy breaths. But that's all he could do. He just couldn't do it. He couldn't do anything right. He just waited. Just waited to be at peace.
