Dream

What a glorious Wednesday it is. Sunny and no clouds. A spotless and pristine blue sky. How beautiful.

You know what's also beautiful? Watching George having a verbal argument with a guy who got the incorrect 'there' on a piece of work. It's hilarious. Sapnap is amused too, standing next to me and laughing. When the random boy throws a pen at George, he steps back, mouth open and I know he's about to deliver a stinging insult.

"Congratulations!" he says suddenly, a bright smile crossing his face. The boy looks confused.

"Excuse me?" he asks.

"You've just been named the world's biggest cockroach!" George says, the smile not vanishing even as the other boy smirks.

"You think that's going to insult me?" he sneers. But George keeps going.

"This award is given in recognition of your unparalleled lack in decency and humanity" George says, his teeth now not visible and his expression darkness, voice getting lower. "Bravo! You're going to die friendless and alone"

That seems to hurt the boy more and with a small tsk tsk he turns and walks away. All of that over a grammatical error. Jesus.

"God damn George" Sapnap says. "You sure love english"

George flicks his hair from his face. "I do Sapnap"

I'm too busy laughing to answer and George hooks an arm around mine. Sapnap follows us out of class, walking around the door and directly into a group of at least five boys. One of them makes eye contact with me, a flicker of recognition crossing his face.

"It's you" he says. "The guy who was on the news about the fire"

I freeze, my eyes going unfocused. "Yeah" I say faintly.

One of them sniffs. "A shame you didn't save all of them"

That comment hits me like a knife, slicing through my chest and into my heart. Sapnap bristles.

"Hey man, not cool" he says.

"Sorry" he says, having the grace to look guilty, his brown eyes shiny.

"It's okay" I say. I turn to walk away when one of them stops me.

"There's a letter going around" he says when I meet his grey eyes. "Saying you're having a party or something tonight at your place?"

My stomach twists. "Excuse me?"

"Yeah" he says. "You didn't know?"

"More like I didn't make them" I shift my feet. "Like at all"

The group looks a little shocked. The boy who told me about the letter hands George a piece of paper. George clears his throat.

"Well, we'll be prepared for people to arrive at around seven" he says. I scratch my head feeling a little sick. The group walks past, the blonde kid at the front looking back again.

"Hey wait" I call. "I didn't catch your names"

"Tommy" the blonde one says. He points at the boy who gave George the letter. "Tubbo, Ranboo, Alex but we all call him Quackity and Wilbur"

"Dream, George and Sapnap" I say back, pointing at each of us. "Pleased to meet you"

I spin on my heels and walk away, Sapnap and George trailing behind me. The school feels too small suddenly, I can feel eyes on me everywhere, people staring at me, people getting ready to come to my house tonight. I feel like I'm suffocating, my breathing loud and shallow and my hands sweating.
