Winter's POV

It was already past midnight and Ian was yet to return. I lazily ruffled under the thick sheets of the blanket and shifted closer to Aiden. He was practically hugging me like a koala in his sleep and nuzzled his face deeper into my blossom sensing my movements. I carefully reached out for my cellphone and tapped on the screen for the millionth time to check if I had any messages from Ian.

Since he had left in the afternoon, I had called him multiple times and even sent a fleet of messages inquiring him if everything was okay. But unfortunately all my efforts seemed to be in vain to check up on him as there was a dead response from the other side. While his phone kept on ringing, his messages were never double ticked. And gradually as time passed, my worries became deeper. I started imagining all sorts of unfortunate events that could possibly happen to him.

I quietly looked over to the other side of the bed and noticed Irene peacefully in her slumber. She literally looked like a baby when she was asleep in contrast to the matured grown-up gorgeous af woman she was. I tilted my head forward and finally decided to get up from the bed. So, I slowly and carefully removed Aiden's hands from my body while taking out my legs out of the blanket. And in no instant a cold shiver ran down through my spine. It was probably below zero degrees outside now and my concerns for Ian grew crazier.

Shit.... When he left in the noon he wasn't even wearing much warm clothes.
And now that it was freezing outside, I am really tensed about him surviving a severe frostbite.

I hurriedly grabbed my phone from under the pillow and rushed outside to the living area. Haphazardly switching on the lights of the room, I dialed in Ian's number.

The phone kept on ringing and soon went to the voicemail. My anxiety was going on a wild rampant right now. I looked at the clock and it was past two in the morning.
I took deep breaths trying to assure myself that everything was alright. A part of my heart just wanted to rush outside right at this moment and look for Ian, but me being new to this town wasn't really in my favour. I still hardly knew the streets properly and it was too dark and freezing outside to figure it out by myself till Ian's hospital.

How I wished if I had Ian's hospital's number.....

Note to self- Do write down Ian's hospital's number from him in case of emergencies.

It had been fifteen minutes since I kept biting on my nails unconsciously, when the doorbell finally rang. I got up hurriedly in no time and rushed to the door.

As soon as I opened the door, a rush of cold wind swiped on my face and there was a haggard looking man leaning on the doorframe.

It was Ian....

He literally looked like he was tramped upon by a storm. There were deep dark circles underneath his eyes and his hairs were messed up. His shirt was crimpled to the fabric and the bright glow in his eyes were gone. He looked too pale and exhausted to even stand properly.

I quickly rushed to his side and held him by his free hand. His weight in an instant shifted onto me and I somehow took him inside into the drawing room.

Carefully sitting him on the sofa, I ran to the kitchen counter to get him a glass of water.
Soon after gulping down the water, Ian sat in pure silence for about five minutes blankly staring at the floor. I was too disturbed looking at his physical and mental state right now to bombard him with any questions. So I quietly waited for him to speak up by himself.

After what seemed like a forever, Ian finally spoke,
"He died..."

For a moment my mind went blank and the next thing what crossed my mind if Adam and Ian's dad were okay. As far as I knew they were the only male family members he practically had in his life other than Aiden who was currently sleeping in my bed.
