KAI'S POV

Since Ryo's car was now all fixed with the help of dad, he had joined us in our Mount Haruna adventures. We had all begun racing again over the holidays, meaning we had more time to spend practicing.

Ryo was a natural and it showed in the way he drifted around the bends, only ever losing twice in his first round.

After that, he won every single one he came up against. Something changed in him over the holiday, and I was still weighing up whether it was a good thing or not. He wasn't one to talk about anything personal, so I decided to keep my worries to myself.

I should've just put my masculine pride to the side and asked.

A further 6 months had passed and we were now out of high school, Haku and Winter being old enough to drive themselves. These 6 months were used to further grow our friendships and me and Kita were progressing slowly into being good friends again. Ryo showed less and less of himself as the months went on, only ever appearing to race. But it was a warm night at Haruna that changed everything for me.

We were atop the mountain and Otis was mid race with a challenger who kept coming back to get his ass beat. Angel came over and handed me, Kita and Ryo our earnings from the week prior.

"You know, if you ever want to make bigger bucks theres always Daikoku." Angel smirked, egging me on.

"I don't know if i'm ready for that yet." I smirked back, kindly accepting the money and counting it before handing a sum back.

"That place in Kanagawa?" Ryo asked, handing Angel a portion of the cash back.

Kita nodded at Ryo and folded her arms, listening to Otis' exhaust go down the hill.

Me and Kita were on okay terms. We spoke to each other when asked, but I tried to keep my distance so that I wouldn't get attached again. She was mindful of this and tried to keep her distance too. It still hurt, but I couldn't blow her off forever.

"Of course you are. Are you not bored of the mountain yet?" Angel asked, shifting her weight to her other foot.

Well.. she wasn't wrong. Racing the same old road for a while now was draining.

"The mountain is what we're good at." I replied, trying to justify why we never tried different things.

"Well its up to you. But i'm going there on Friday, i've got some friends who want me to enter the limbo." She smirked.

"Limbo? Car limbo?" Kita smiled.

Angel nodded and grinned in her direction.

"Come if you feel up to it."

Ryo kicked the rocks under his feet and shrugged.

"Im game if you're game." He exclaimed confidently.

I slowly nodded, trying to think of all the cons of going.

-I have been specifically told to not go by my parents, which means if they find out, i'll be in deep shit.

-I also have heard rumours that the place is a huge target for police, which means I could get in more shit.

But i've always wanted to go and I only live once, right? I might as well do it while i'm young. Like dad.

"Maybe we can just go check it out. No racing, though."

On the Friday we followed Angel to Daikoku.

It was every car enthusiasts dream garage spread across multiple car parks.

We drove in and gained attention fast, noticing that all the ground cars weren't as modified as the rest. A tall guy was standing in front of the onramp, waving everyone either up or down the levelled carpark. I wasn't aware this place was popular enough for security, so this made me anxious.
