OTIS' POV:
The way life worked didn't always faze me. I had friends, family and a roof over my head. Minor things never bothered me as I was usually a pretty passive person. When I was introduced to Kai, he seemed like the complete opposite of me.
He was fiery, passionate and brave. He was outspoken and usually spoke for me most of the time. And with this, at times, I could feel overshadowed. But when we were on the street?
It was an even playing field.
"Otis, are you listening to a word I'm saying?" Mom asked.
I blinked up at her as she pushed her blonde hair over her shoulder, crossing her legs as she sat on the desk. My other mom, Ymir was sipping from a whiskey glass in her office while she listened.
"Yeah, I hear you." I replied, leaning back in the leather seat.
I didn't hear a word.
"Ymir, are you gonna say anything or just let me be bad cop all the time?" Mom frowned, earning a roll of the eyes from my other mom. We'll call her Ymir, for the sake of the story telling.
"What do you want me to say, Historia? They passed the trial."
I sighed under my breath as the two bickered amongst each other, the large office making their voices echo.
"We have to decide TOGETHER whether we let him join The Nest! Not just me?!" Mom argued.
Ymir rolled the ice around in her glass before speaking again.
"Look, Otis, what your mother is trying to say is that we are worried of the consequences of you joining The Nest. Despite the fact that you're a good driver and you're not stupid, we can't control the outside forces."
"Outside forces?" I asked, taking my glasses off and cleaning them with my shirt.
"Things like other underground organisations running other operations or people who may want your success slash money. The world is full of greedy people with no morals and we can try our hardest to help you but can't guarantee your safety. Once you're in, you're in." Ymir explained, sipping from her glass.
Mom nodded and eyed me carefully.
"Look at us! We left that life twenty years ago and we've come full circle again! Not to mention majority of what they do is illegal so you'll have police after you too."
"They're easy to take care of." Ymir interjected.
Mom eyeballed her in despise at her comment, making me smile.
"You understand where we're coming from, right?" Mom asked, her brows raised in sympathy.
I smiled and nodded, looking into her bright blue eyes as they glowed.
"Does this mean its a no?" I asked.
Mom eyed me as she blinked before pursing her lips. She seemed very apologetic, but I understood.
"Yes."
"No."
My brow twitched in confusion as they both said different things at once. Mom looked back at Ymir with distain as she emptied her glass into her mouth.
