Elianah went to Loki's chambers. She took her backpack with her and showed some of its contents to him. Loki was staring at her cellphone incredulously. She explained to him how it works, the applications that most young people use, but it seemed kind of fantastical to him.
'I will just say mine is broken like this one. Problem solved.'
'Again, this isn't broken, it needs to be charged. Besides, that won't explain why you're not on any social media platform. Unless we show them your Wikipedia page.' she joked and regretted it instantly.
'My what on which platform?' he looked even more confused.
'Don't worry about that now. Trust me. I know how these things work. I lived amongst them.'
'I refuse to say I deleted myself for a girl who cheated on me. I would never do that.'
Elianah couldn't help, but smile the way he stressed the word deleted. He was a fast learner.
'I would probably post photos of myself enjoying life, just to show her what she was missing.' he continued.
'Except for the fact that you're not a university student and never had any Facebook or Twitter account.'
'I don't care for any of these apps.'
'It's 2009 and we all use these. This is why you will tell them that you deleted all your social media accounts, because you were never a big fan of them anyway.'
'Why would people want to share moments of their private lives with the world to see multiple times a day instead of living it? Do they crave attention this badly?'
'Imagine you conquer another realm and you want everyone to know.' she said.
'I can relate to that, but you said people post videos about themselves dancing or what they eat. Insignificant moments like that hardly compare.'
'I could set up fake accounts for you, Loki, because I happen to be very good with computers, but we don't have time to fake photos and posts, so please, can you just get on board with the plan?'
He gave a reluctant shrug.
'I agree, but only if you show me the encyclopedia pages written about me.' he smirked.
'Fine and it's called Wikipedia, it's not a real...ah, never mind! I'll show you.'
'OK then.' Loki said. 'Let's select a name.'
It took them over an hour to agree on his background story and another ten minutes just to select a name, because Loki kept changing his mind, didn't like anything. Finally, he settled on Leo Walker.
'What's your mortal name?' he asked Elianah.
'Ellie Martin.'
'Ellie Martin.' He repeated it, tasting it on his tongue. 'Sounds plain.'
'That was the point. To blend in.'
'Have you done this a lot? Create fake identities?'
'Yes, one of reasons why I made myself indispensable for the Underworld. They aren't really a tech savvy bunch and I was always interested in technology. I made connections to supply me with fake papers and I can hack into online databases, records. Penn State has some decent IT seminars. '
'Penn State is your university.' he noted.
'Correct. I can get you a driving license, but it will take a day or two, so we need to stay out of trouble until then. Name of my friends?'
'Claire, the roommate. Tyler, the dealer.'
'You shouldn't say that to his face.' Elianah cut in.
'Obviously! Can't wait to try one of these substances he sells to see if they are any more potent than the ones I make.'
