It was the winter season, meaning it was very cold out. The breeze that would barely even brush against your skin would make you shiver.
Despite your body being dressed and bundled up, your face would freeze as the wind would push against it. The tips of your fingers also were victims of the impact, making it feel as if the actual nails would fall off.
The cold air isn't what made you dislike the winter season, it was the emotional damage it left on you and numerous of people.
Your brother let you skip school today after he realized you weren't doing too good lately. Seeming down when you guys eat together, never having the motivation to leave the house after school, reducing your social life, etc.
What you experienced on your end was time going by slow, dreading the day even longer than it should be. The more time you were given, the more thoughts that overwhelmed your head. So staying in bed just to sleep was the conclusion you came to.
Now you're on the back of your brother's bike, upper limbs wrapped under his arms to grip his shoulders. Your head is shoved against his back, face scrunched in displeasure as you try to hide from the falling snow.
He was going past the speed limit, going between and cutting off cars which earned honks and curses.
It didn't help that you guys just had lunch minutes beforehand. All the swerving and pressure to hang on tight made you want to throw up. But your brother was only smiling as he waited for your grip to soften.
"Come on, [name]! Just lift your head!" He would laugh, trying to steal a glance over his shoulder – only to see the top of your head.
You would always respond with a head-shake as your grip would tighten. You knew he was only doing his best to make you feel better, and it's not like you purposely rejected his thoughtful behavior. It's just..there was this huge age gap between you two, almost a decade.
He was comfortable with this bike of his to the point he knew all these risky turns won't harm him. But all you could think about is that if you even made a slight adjustment to yourself, then you're both more than likely to tip over. He was a pro, and you weren't even a rookie.
"Imagine what your dad would say if he saw you! How would that make him feel!"
"He'd hate it!" You shout, still hesitating to open your eyes.
"Look up!"
You slowly flutter your eyes open and slide your head up against his back, peeking over his shoulder to see the most horrifying thing as a child.
