Peridot's POV

I slowly pried my eyes open as I heard my alarm interrupt my dream state. As I feel my consciousness seep in, I lazily roll over to grab my phone and dismiss the aforementioned alarm. I sigh and press my thumb and forefinger to the bridge of my nose, as the realization sets in that today is the first day of my senior year of high school. Slowly sitting up, I stretch my arms up above my head before reaching over to my bedside table to retrieve my glasses. As the world comes into view, I reluctantly remove myself from the warmth of my bed and head off to the bathroom.

Double-checking my schedule to see that I've arrived at the correct room, I step into my first period class and take a seat towards the back of the room. I don't feel much of a need to pay attention. It's only the first day, anyway. I set my eyes towards the front of the classroom and let my mind drift off onto what are, in my mind, more important matters.
About fifteen minutes pass, and someone walks in the classroom door. It was a girl about 5'6, taller than me as I sat at an unimpressive 5'2. Her hair was scruffy and dyed a deep azure blue, resting just below her jawline. Tan complexion, and a pair of the bluest eyes I have ever seen. She wore a black hoodie with "Gorillaz" written across the front in red lettering, as well as a pair of black jeans with rips at the knees. I'll be honest, I felt my face heating up by the second and I couldn't seem to divert my gaze.
"You're late," the teacher spoke up annoyedly from her desk. The girl simply rolled her eyes and walked to the back of the room, though on the opposite side as myself, not seeming to want to socialize. Attempting to seem as least obvious as possible, I rest my head on my hand and glance back at her from the corner of my eyes. She focuses her attention on a notebook in front of her, and seems to be sketching. Her gaze is unmoving, and I seem to be just as captivated by her as she is by her notebook.
Fuck, I'm too gay for this.

I've just finished up my fourth period, and am standing at my locker putting my things away before lunch break. As I place a textbook into the locker, I feel a sudden harsh grasp on my shoulders from behind.
"BAH!" I jump, startled, and instantly turn around to face my best and frankly only friend, Amethyst. She bursts out laughing, and I sigh with a tired expression.
"Goddamn it Amethyst," I grunt as I readjust my glasses.
"Wow, I missed you too" she retorted sarcastically.
"Yeah, yeah. Of course I missed you."
"Psshh.."
I avert my gaze over to the end of the hallway, watching the groups of students pass by. It's then that I notice that among those students happens to be the girl from my first period. Instantly I'm lost in thought once more, not noticing my embarassingly obvious stare until the girl next to me starts to laugh again. I'm broken out of my trance.
"Ooooh, who ya' starin' at, bud??" Amethyst teased eagerly, catching on to the situation quickly.
"Nobody, I was just zoning out," I deadpanned. That was a fucking lie.
She snickered, "Right, and there is definitely not a blush on your face."
"Fuck off, Amethyst." I shut my locker and we begin walking side by side to the commons.
She spoke up again, "Aw, come on, man. If you told me who it was I might be able to bag you a baddie. I'm a great wingman, bro" she laughed as she gestured towards herself.
I sigh. "You fuck this up for me and I'll strangle you."
"Sure whatever, now who was it?"
I glance around the commons, looking to spot the girl in question. My gaze soon finds its target, sitting alone at a small table in the corner of the room, looking down at her phone with her headphones occupying both ears. I'm staring again.
Amethyst follows my gaze towards the girl at the other end of the room.
"Lapis Lazuli??" she asks, sounding taken aback.
"What?" I question.
"That blue-haired one, right?" she clarifies.
"O-oh, yeah. Wait, you know her?" I ask.
"Nah, not really. Steven knows her."
Steven, our energetic underclassman - while we are seniors now, he's just starting his freshman year. He's pretty much friends with everybody, but is particularly close with Amethyst, and in turn myself, because she'd known his father and late mother for a long time.
"How does Steven know her?" I inquire, as they seem like such different people.
"I don't actually know. But he talks about her a fair bit, usually out of concern."
I suppose I'm not surprised, with her reserved nature and careless attitude. Though this only intrigued me more. I catch myself staring once more, though this time, she glances up and briefly catches my gaze. My face burns as she raises an eyebrow at me, before returning her attention to the phone in her hands. Ah, shit.
Amethyst continues to observe my awkward situation intently. "Wow, you are down bad, huh?" she teases. I groan. "But I guess I can't blame you," she continues, "she's pretty fine." Amethyst chuckles.
"Yeah...I guess you could say that..."
