Your eyes widened in shock. “What ! No ! Why do you- Oh. No, no, no. Not pregnant. Thank God.” Of course you were not pregnant. You had taken upon yourself to get a nice little implant to make sure this kind of thing didn’t happen, and you intended it to work for a long while.
Bucky took your hand and forced you to come back on the couch. “You said you needed to talk to me, you talked about parents, and you seemed troubled.”
“But I told you it was some dumb shit !" you shouted, louder than anticipated. "And if I had been pregnant, I wouldn’t have been troubled, Bucky. You know very well I would have been-”
“Panicked.” He sighed. “So you’re not pregnant.” You nodded. “What is it then ?”
You shifted in your seat and tried to stop biting the inside of your cheeks. “Well, I didn’t want to bother you with that, but everyone at work knows, and I didn’t want to talk to anyone about it and they all told me to talk to you about it. But it’s nothing.”
“It’s obviously something if you can't use words anymore.” You leaned back on the couch and started moving to get close to him, until you remembered you had company. Bucky let the cat go and pulled you closer to him. “I’m waiting.”
“My parents want to see me.”
“Your parents,” he repeated calmly, but you felt his arms get tighter around you. “The same parents who thought you were possessed ?” You nodded. “The same parents who authorized doctors to open you up and look at your brain ?” Oh, so he remembered what you said about them. You weren't sure this would go well with him. “The same parents who kicked you out when you were 15, left you to live on the streets, didn’t report you as missing during the Blip and never looked for you when everyone came back ?”
“Yeah, those parents.”
“Do you want to see them ?” You shrugged. There was a reason if you didn’t want to talk about them. You still didn't know if you wanted to see them or not.
“Not really. But I feel like I have to.”
“You don’t owe them anything.” You moved a little on the side and looked at him.
“I know that. But they owe me some answers.” Bucky raised a brow and you came back in his arms. “We both know why they want to meet me. I’m famous now.”
If you trusted what Noah told you, and since you were in his head while he was telling you the whole thing, you did, they didn’t even try to hide it when they showed up at work. Good thing Pepper had a meeting and asked you to be there. They just said that they were your parents and demanded to see you. Noah texted you to let you know they were there and you had a hard time keeping your composure until the end of the meeting. When you got out, they were already gone. They didn't leave a message, flowers, or even a stuffed bear.
“I don’t want to talk to them. But Bruce said that he wasn’t going anywhere with the mutant thing," you tried to explain. "And maybe they know something about it. Or maybe someone in the family knows about it.” You really didn’t want to talk about them anymore. You lifted your head up and kissed Bucky, trying to change the subject into a way more interesting one.
“Wait.” He pushed you away and looked at you. “If you decide to meet them, don’t do it because Banner needs answers. He’ll get them somewhere else. If you do it, you do it for you.”
“What if I need those answers too ? I don't even know what I want," you said with a chuckle. "It's been what, 15 years ? I could handle it, it's just that-"
“You don’t want them to get to you like they did before.” For a second, you considered the fact that Bucky was, in fact, able to read minds too. “Go see them, then. But do it on your own terms. They only get to talk to either answer your questions or apologize.”
