Coral Reef

Yellow, pink, purple, aquamarine

Smooth or serrated, round or random.

It comes in clumps or one lone branch,

Coral is the base

Life bustles around the coral

Tiny mullet and minnow flit around,

Hoping not to be prey

For the giant Moray Eel.

Banana slugs, sponges, sea cucumbers

Like thick, giant, slimy worms,

They crawl along quietly,

Wishing not to be crushed by humans.

Octopi wrap tentacles

Around rock and coral and reed,

Camoflauging perfectly against the

Grays, greens, pinks, and aquas

Starfish scootch around the sand,

Five long limbs that grow back

Come in all shades and hues,

Textures and feels.

Dolphins may attend, hoping for easy meals.

They eat fish, but maybe they crave difference.

Using sponges for snout-protection,

They poke around for clams and oysters.

It is big, it is small.

It is a wonder to see,

No matter the size

Of the Coral Reef.
