Chapter 41: The Wedding

It was Leo's wedding, and I was frustrated kasi desidido si Mum na i-announce na ikakasal na kami ni Clark. At kapag humindi si Clark, it was already over. The game's over, and she wouldn't let him have me at all cost. Na kung hindi makukuha ni Mum ang gusto niya, it's all or nothing.

I wanted to marry Clark, but not now.

Then everything dawned on me. Just like that.

Parang may countdown kami ng bad news. Nakaupo lang ako sa isa sa mga table for visitors. I was with Daddy, and Mum was welcoming everyone.

She already announced na ikakasal kami ni Clark before the event commenced but Tita Pia said patapusin muna ang wedding bilang respeto na rin sa mga ikakasal.

Gastos ni Mum ang halos lahat sa wedding ni Leo. The original sponsor transferred the "honor" to my mom at hindi ako makapaniwalang aabot sa ganito ang mommy namin.

Alam namin kung gaano ka-strict si Mum sa pera. Hindi siya kuripot, at never kong maiko-consider na kuripot ang mommy ko. Pero ayaw niya ng gumagastos siya sa wala. Because as per her words, she earned hard for that money, and she wanted the best results sa ginastusan niya.

Everything was perfectly planned—contrary to the wedding's status last month na masabi lang na may kasal.

From the motif to the venue. The six-foot-tall cake was more delicate than Kuya's cake, to be honest.

It felt like we'd entered a fantasy garden full of white peonies. Take note of the fact that peonies in March are expensive because they only bloom from April to June. Although peonies are one of the most expensive flowers, regardless of the month, they are highly coveted at any wedding.

The aisle was covered with red and gold velvet carpet, and the altar was full of white and gold ornaments.

Leo looked like a handsome prince in his white tux, and Kyline looked like a beautiful princess in her white wedding ballgown with a lot of Swarovski in it. She even got a diamond tiara with a veil and white roses for her bouquet.

Luan is the ring bearer, and everyone was thankful na sumusunod sa instructions ang bata—only because they let Clark guide the kid. If not for Clark, baka maulit ang pagbabato ng singsing sa kalagitnaan ng procession.

I know Mum could turn this hell into the wedding of the year if only she handled things earlier than this month.

Magsisimula na ang procession at naka-ready na lahat nang biglang huminto ang orchestra. Clark is Leo's best man, but Clark asked Eugene to substitute for a while.

Ang bigat ng feeling ko kasi alam kong importante sa lahat ang wedding ni Leo lalo sa buong barkada ni Kuya. They waited for it, and I could feel that they wanted the best today.

I bit my lip when I saw Clark sitting on the pianist's chair. Tears formed in the corner of my eyes because . . .

Because we've never heard Clark play any instrument since that incident eighteen years ago.

I'm not sure if everyone knew that Clark could play any musical instrument, but I could see the wonder in their eyes—especially Tita Pia and Mum.

I was asking myself, Can you do it again, Clark?

Because I spent eighteen years asking myself, Why did you stop? Was it my fault?

Clark started to play . . . and a slow rhythm of Canon in D was giving me chills.
