They'd crawled up so many sand dunes before sliding down the other side, having no clue where they were going before Teresa found an abandoned building half-buried in sand and ran inside, Tanya somewhat grateful seeing as she was freezing outside.
"Where the hell are we?" Minho asked as he shone the beam of his flashlight around.
"We gotta go," Thomas urged.
"No," Teresa protested.
"We've gotta keep moving."
"Thomas, stop!" Teresa ordered loudly, her voice echoing through the empty building - or at least what they hoped was empty. "Tell me what's going on."
"I may not like her, but I would like an explanation as well," Tanya piped up, Teresa glaring at her.
Tanya meant what she said.
Sometimes having Gally's paranoia rub off on her was useful because she'd already noted how she and Teresa were in the same infirmary yet where she was drugged and was still getting back the use of her body, Teresa had already been up, awake and running by herself.
And Tanya didn't trust it one bit.
"It's WICKED," Newt began, Tanya's brown eyes falling on him.
"They lied to us," Thomas continued. "We never escaped. Me and Aris, we found bodies. Too many to count."
"What do you mean? Dead bodies?" Minho asked as Tanya realised that Aris was the new kid.
"No, but they weren't alive either. They had them strung up. Tubes coming out of them. They were being...they were being drained," Thomas answered and Tanya was filled with a feeling of complete dread as she began to put the pieces together. "There's something inside us that WICKED wants. Something in our blood."
"Something they can't make," Newt realised as he looked to Minho first and then to Tanya. "When we were trying to wake you up, Crawford said something about you being prepped for Harvest."
Her mouth grew dry as her chest rose up and down.
"They told me that there was something wrong with my ribs from when I was attacked by that Griever in the Glade and I didn't believe them," she began, her eyes never leaving Newt's. "I asked to at least see you or Thomas, but they refused to let me and made me meet with Janson instead."
"What did he say?" Thomas asked, voice full of concern and anger as he heard Janson's name.
"Uh, he mentioned me having promising test results. He called me Subject A-1. He also said something about Harvesting us," she recalled as she squinted her eyes. "I don't remember much else, but I clearly remember the part where he drugged me and jammed a needle in my neck," she explained as she rubbed the spot on her neck. "But he did say something about going after you guys."
"And they did," Thomas added as Newt moved over to his friend to finally hug her properly. "Which is why we have to get as far away from them as possible."
"Ok. So, what's the plan?" Newt asked as he hugged Tanya to his side, feeling how ice-cold her skin was. "You do have a plan, right?"
"Yeah. I don't know," Thomas sighed and Newt began to grow angry.
"Well, we followed you out here, Thomas, and now you're saying that you have no idea where we're going or what we're doing?!" he asked in outrage.
"Wait," said Aris. "Janson said something about people hiding in the mountains. Some kind of resistance or army."
"The Right Arm," Thomas recalled and Tanya truly didn't know what to believe. "The Right Arm. If they're really against WICKED, maybe they can help us."
