Marcus was a rather disgusting person if they were being quite honest.
He had burned his bridges with the Right Arm in favour of luring in kids for WICKED to come in and take the immunes.
He did lead them in the right direction though and Tanya could not have been more thankful that they didn't have to walk thanks to Bertha.
Bertha was the name of the car that they'd stolen from Marcus and driven into the mountains. Tanya had to say that she really enjoyed her first car ride - the first one she could remember at least - even though they cramped all eight of them inside.
Though, that was before they came to a portion of the road that was blocked with broken-down cars that were covered in dust and dirt from years of unuse.
A portion of the road where they were ambushed.
They'd crouched behind the cars before Thomas and Jorge tried to throw a bomb as a distraction so they could get back to the car, but they never got the chance before two armed women stopped them.
Two armed women that recognised Aris.
When they'd officially introduced Tanya to Aris the night they escaped from WICKED, they'd mentioned his Maze was full of girls and he was the only boy. Which was why he recognised the two girls named Harriet and Sonya and how he became their key to the car that Harriet would drive as she led them to the Right Arm.
Their base was smaller than they imagined but it was still impressive. The tents, fires, food and company they saw gave them more hope than they ever had that they were closer to the end of all of this shit.
"They've been planning this for a little over a year. This is all for us," Harriet explained as they walked into camp.
"You guys are lucky you found us when you did. We're moving out at first light," Sonya added before turning to one of the many people in the camp. "Where's Vince?" she asked as they pointed to an area, giving her a vague answer.
"Who's Vince?" Thomas asked.
"He's the one who decides if you get to stay," Harriet answered.
"I thought the Right Arm was supposed to be an army?" Minho questioned before a new voice answered.
"We were. This is all that's left of us," a blonde man who looked to be in his late 30s informed them as he emerged from a tent. His beard was scruffy and his long hair was unkempt, but half tied back as he neared them. "Lotta good people died getting us this far. Who are they?" he asked the two girls.
"They're Immunes," Harried replied. "Caught 'em coming up the mountain."
"Did you check 'em?" Vince pressed.
"I know this guy, Aris. I trust him," Harriet said.
"Well, I don't. Check 'em," he ordered and that was when Brenda collapsed.
Jorge rushed to her side as she began gasping for air and apologising in his arms, at least until Vince bent down to see the wound on her leg.
"Fuck! Crank! We got a Crank!" he bellowed as he jumped back, pulling out a gun.
Thomas jumped in front of it as Jorge was pulled off Brenda and Tanya yanked the shotgun from her bag.
"Back the hell up! Get away!" she warned as she aimed the gun at the two men holding Jorge who promptly let him go.
